  1. I got the first part and it was wrong, i tried to explain to him it didn't look right, but oh well. Called back and talked to Mike in support, who seemed to understand the problem, was able to recognize the correct part I needed by asking one question. He also agreed that the broken piece, which the screw was holding together caused this entire issue. Of course I had to pay for the second part and will get credit for the first part when they get it back. I got the new part today and it looks correct. I am waiting on support to open so I can call to make sure I put it on correctly. I am unsure about that silver rod, I took out one screw and a washer came out, not sure where it goes, so I stopped. Hopefully I will be up and running today. I lost about $400 in orders due to this fiasco. I am not putting off learning my back up cutter, I have been working on that and figuring out what software to use, etc.... I need a back up and need to use the benefits of each cutter. I still feel like support is not up to par, this all could have prevented three weeks ago when I called. Not sure if management reads this board, but I think they need to make some changes. I sent a pm to some in administration, but didn't get a reply. I ran a manufacturing company for 13 years and know the headaches. Customer service should be a number on priority.
  2. The blade holder was jumping and not creating continuous cuts before it broke completely. I sent support a ticket, they told me to call. This is my third go around for this part. He thought he knew which version of a creation arm I needed. I offered to send pictures, but he told me what to order instead. I ordered, got it today and it doesn't begin to fit. I called again and sent pictures, waiting on a reply. This has gone on for over two weeks. I am continually losing money because I can't fill my orders. I am not even sure if the other version of the carriage arm is the right one.
  3. I was hoping I would get some response to this. I talked to tech support and they didn't have much input, told me to try signcut. The problem is the same broken piece I have been trying to replace for over a year. I was trying to cut again today, to see if I could figure it out and the carriage arm literally broke into many pieces. I don't see the style I have on their site, so I guess I am screwed and very unhappy.
  4. I have had a broken piece on my Laserpoint for a long time, but haven't been cutting much vinyl. The piece that is broken is the circular part where the blade holder drops in. It hasn't been a problem because screwing it in, I thought was not affecting the cutter. I haven't been able to replace it, because it hadn't been in stock. I need to call and see if they ever got them. The problem I am having is when cutting, my letters aren't smooth. I am using Signblazer, typed in text only, I did create the text on an arc, because my customer wanted it curved. When I cut it, most letters aren't smooth. There is a jag in them, some only may be off 1/16" of an inch and some up to 1/8" or so, it's not consistent throughout the text. It's noticeable, so I can't do this order til I get it fixed. I apologize for not knowing all these part names. The little silver rod that sticks out of the top of the blade holder has a lot of "play" in it. I can't remember if it is supposed to. I changed the blade a few weeks ago and have cut a few things, but didn't have trouble with the jagged letters until tonight. I put off doing this because I had some other products to get made for orders and have tried it twice and it's not good enough for me to give us a customer. Would the broken blade holder arm affect the cutting, even though it hasn't to this point? Also, is that little silver rod supposed to have some play in it. Thank you! Nan

    Tile Stand

I am doing craft for our preschool Dayfest at church. We are anticipating 150 preschoolers. We won't be using vinyl, but I know there has been discussion about tiles and tile stands here. They are going to decorate tiles to take home. I am hoping to find a stand that won't cost a fortunate. Someone suggested the old pleater drapery hooks, putting the tile in the hook portion and pulling out a few of the prongs to make it a stand. I am trying to find those hooks and haven't been successful. I found some that will cost about $.50 each with shipping, just trying to get a better deal. Any other ideas for stands that we can get very inexpensively. We are not charging a fee for the entire day, feeding them two meals and taking them to our local version of Chuckee Cheese, so our funds are kind of limited. I would appreciate any ideas, they might just have to take the tile home with no stand. Thanks. Nancy

Trying to convert jpg to eps in Inkscape - not working

Thank you! That was exactly what was wrong. I am off to cut vinyl. Still have so much to learn.

Trying to convert jpg to eps in Inkscape - not working

My fault, I forgot to select attach this image.
  8. I am trying to convert the attached logo in Inkscape so I can cut some in vinyl. I am only doing one color. When I choose the trace bitmap option, nothing happens. I convert jpgs to eps in Inkscape often, but this one isn't working. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Entire image not importing

You are all so wonderful. I really need to work on the prep part of this business. I bought those graphics as part of a pkg and got the eps format. I am thinking I need to invest in a better software program to make the transition to SB easier. I do have a good graphics guy that helps me (my best friend), but he is really sick right now and won't be able to help me for a month or so. Dazzel: Last night I was ready to make the "dad" without pants. I was beyond frustrated, so I quit working on it, went on to the next order. Once I get my orders caught up (whenever that will be), I will spend time every day working on the graphics part to get a better understanding of this. I think that image was rough, because of all the manipulation I did to attempt to get it to work. So, what graphics program do I really need to make this easier? I am still using my U. S. Cutter and SB, until I get to know my other cutter. Then I will have both running and figure out the best plan to use both of them.

I am struggling with a stick family decal. I probably take too many steps to create these, but this is my process. Open jpg in Inkscape, trace bitmap, save as eps Import eps in Signblazer I have a 6 person decal, the first person is missing half his body. I am not sure what I did. So, I decided to crop him out and redo him. I am trying to redo him in Inkscape, he looks fine. I import into SB and the same thing again. I have worked on this too long tonight. I did him alone and when I try to cut, it says there is still a bitmap and it only shows the other people. I think I need to start over and delete everything. I am attaching the eps file, he is missing his pants, when I import it into SB. Ideas? Thanks. Nanc crawford 1st person rev.eps crawford 1st person rev.eps

Crazy Lines Being Cut Through my piece

My Laserpoint was doing that and grounding fixed it. There is a huge static build up. What I saw was cut lines from the blade not lifting up. We moved the cutter to a different room and the "boys" had taken my wire off. I had been cutting little pieces and didn't notice any difference. Had trouble cutting long pieces last week, I loosed a screw on the bottom of the cutter, wrapped a piece of wire around the screw, tightened it up, then did the same to a screw on the stand. I used floral wire, it was pretty heavy wire. It has been cutting fine since then, with the exception of the broken part. Nancy

    No replacement parts

Thanks everyone, I found the UK site and have emailed them to see if they have it. I took a good picture with the cover off so I can send it to show what type of carriage arm I have. I bought some JB Weld today and will try that. I live in Illinois, I will check Craigs list, great idea! Nanc
  14. I have a broken carriage arm on my Laser Point 24. I purchased it in April 2009 and noticed it when I took the blade holder out to change blades. Actually the blade holder part is broken, it snapped in half. I can't let the entire blade assembly drop into the holder and rest there. When I do that the blade holder is too close to the vinyl and the blade drags on the vinyl when it's moving. That's another story. I called to order the part and was told they don't have any and don't know when they are getting them in. He said I was in the same boat as lots of people. Parts of the conversation were pretty unprofessional. He said I have the new carriage arm and they don't have those in stock. My choices per the tech were to buy a $150 MH cutter from them on Ebay or wait. He did say I could try tape or hot glue. I didn't get an answer when I asked if it was safe to run it like it is or what the problem would be with the blade assembly resting on the holder. I am not near as technical as many on these boards, but I do have patience, can take pictures and can explain things. My nephew will be here this weekend, he learned how to use the cutter and then taught me. He told me last weekend about the blade holder not seating well in the carriage arm and to contact them. I am not happy, but I am not going to scream and yell. I am a business owner and understand things happen. I don't like it when they advertise they have spare parts and don't. I also don't feel like I should spend $150 on another cutter. I am evaluating more expensive cutters at this point since my business is growing. I am hoping to get a better cutter and use my LP as a back up. I have had no problems with the LP since I got, other than user errors, which were fixed by this forum. I did send a PM to Levi (I assume it was him, based on a previous post) to see if he could help at all. Hopefully I can keep cutting today and tomorrow to get my rush orders out and make money to get a more expensive cutter.

    Broken Part

I am thinking about getting another cutter, a good one, like suggested. Hopefully I can get the part for the LP and use it for a back up. I am researching the Graphtec cutters, but not sure about the software. I am using Sign Blazer now and am comfortable with it. I use Inkscape to get any designs ready to import. Is the software that comes with the Graphtec easy to use, will I be able to do things the way I do them now? I get my image in Paint Shop Pro, convert it to eps in Inkscape and then import to SB. I haven't been successful in saving the image in PSP in .eps format and then importing it to SB. I am a PSP kind of girl, I make printed materials and have always used it. I suppose I need to eventually learn Corel or something similar. Most of my business is local. My church gives me lots of business and the members give me business as well. I am blessed to have a huge contact tree here! Thank you so much.
