True, I upgraded my blade holder to the "Roland Type" that US Cutter sells and It cuts detail lots better now. Unfortunatly even if you can get a stepper motor (if that's what yours have) to cut really small, at one point it'll start pulling off the detail you're trying to cut. As far as business goes a majority of my jobs involve signage so I don't require small detail too often, if your plan was to make small decals then try a better blade holder... otherwise you need a designer brand cutter.

Those work great, I have a couple I use around the pool in the cooler months. You can get inexpensive teplacement tops and sides from a swapmeet supplier. Holefully you have one in your area. Locally they even sell replacements made out of a mesh material that helps in the hotter months and one with "sky lights". Great find! -

Although this is probably NOT the problem because your having the issue on both graphics I also found user fault in not pre feeding the vinyl you cut, especially from a big roll. I've also (on a stand equiped with a material roller) squeezed the end guide too tight or even had a roll (tube) with jagged edges catching on the end guides which will cause the vinyl to slip a little and throw the whole thing off. Other than that all I can think of is a bad board. -
Hey.those do look sharp.

Your computer had a port fart. Mine used to do that sometimes when it was on com2, I moved it over to com3 about two years ago and it never happened again. Static build up can cause it too so it's a good idea to have a box of dryer sheets handy to stuff one into the roll on cloudy/humid days. These machines get a bad rep unfortunatly due to some users lack of mechanical/computer skills however once you have it all dialed in and spend about $40 on a better blade holder and blades your already $800-$1,000 ahead. Mine has run hundreds of yards of vinyl over the past 4 years with zero issues or breakdowns. -

I dunno guys, I've been cutting with a cheap cutter from a laptop via USB for about four years and I've never seen anything like that before. I might be goin out on a limb here but did you check to see if "auto weld" was activated? Other than that I have no idea. Try sticking dryer sheets in your rolls and cutting, that at least helps with static. Lots of luck! -
IDK if they have exactly what you're looking for but I totally dig ordering cables and adapteers from MONOPRICE.com, shipping is ASAP, price is great and customer svs is excellent. http://www.monoprice.com/

Pricing help for 3 inch letters.
locknload1 replied to Andrew's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Personally I'd go ahead and make him the 300 if he's willing to pay for them and then follow up with the type of info that the other's suggested. My guess is he wants a bunch of precut letters/numbers that are ready to go but would probably be willing to have a few custom choices. I do logo updateing, boat naming and CF numbers for a local boat shop and the owner keeps a display with stock letters/numbers but sends me all the custom stuff to deal direct with the customer. For the 300 I'd probably go 40-50 cents each since the shop I do work for sells them for 89 cents each. Not sure what your customers going rate is in his area. -
The area this is located in is notorious for heavy restrictions with regards to signage. I wonder who got fired for this one? LOL!

Anyone know of a good resource to be able to accept credit cards from customers that is not as expensive as PayPal? I've had a few customers want to pay via credit card again and I'm quite frankly tired of paying PayPal's high fee, Is there an online service or bank that I can use to accept payments that will not charge me as much as PayPal? RG

Could be a number of things but to narrow it down I'd check the baud rate on the plotter and make sure it's set at 9600, make sure you're on the correct port still, if you are then go into control panel, system, hardware, then device manager. Once there click on the universal serial bus controller that shows an error and select disconnect. Unplug your plotter then plug it back in so it can be found again. If that doesn't work then call ASH.

I have a project I need to print/cut this for and can't seem to clean it up like I'd like to and fill the areas with the colors from the PDF so I can print it. Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind, did it myself. Sorry about that but I didn't think it would be such a challange for everyone. I'll post a tutorial for everyone when I'm not so busy.

"Garbage in garbage out." I'll be sure to remember that next time I feel tempted to do some of those Ed Hardy knock offs or redundant celtic dreck... lol Come to think of it, I don't recall ever seeing any actual installs from either of you in show your work. Guess it's pretty easy to criticize from the ground huh?

Really, thanks for all the input but I posted because I have a really full plate this weekend and have a didn't have time to do it today and hand it off to my friend who needed it. I've been managing for three years and just wanted somebody who's better than me and has the time to do a solid for a fellow forum member who's helped others out in the past. If you like playing with design and are quicker than I am then GOD bless you. If not then oh well thank you anyway. No big deal...

Blade Holder
locknload1 replied to Stlouistech's topic in USCutter Refine Cutting Plotter Discussion
Take out the blade holder and do a mock cut without it. It may be your carriage making all that noise. What brand/model cutter do you have? Mine is a pcut which means, if it aint smacking, it aint cutting... ;o)
