  1. I just bought a new iMac 24" from Apple. It's got 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB member and is the newer 2009 model. I've installed SignCut X2 and for some reason it is not seeing the USB port. It's so weird cause on my MacBook it see's the USB port where the Cutter is connected. Does anyone know the fix for this?

  2. 30" refine.....and my settings vary depending on what I am cutting and how much blade I have out.  Normally I try to get less blade and more pressure, mine seems to cut best when I am running about 110-120 pressure and barely cutting through the vinyl to the backing.  There is also a spot it cuts pretty well having more blade out and having about 90 pressure.  Either way really works, but I have never had it stick.  I think maybe you may be cutting too deep, I have had that cause me problems in the past because when I cut to deep it seems to want to stick.

for the past week i've been using my PCut and Laserpoint both 24" - I got R-Tape AT-60 and have been using HT-55 with Oracal 631... I havent had any issues once I lowered the down pressure on the blade. Thanks for everyone's help!

  3. Ok...I also received some HT-55 samples from Oracal.  I am still having issues with the 631 pulling off of the backing.  Oracal had some issues in the past with their backing paper not having enough silicone release.  Their white works excellent as well as several of the othe colors, however, black is a beast!  Why do some colors stick to the tape better then others?  Try some White and then Black...what a difference.  Same decal, same cutter, same settings... just changing colors.  Not cutting too deep because I can bearly see a marking on the backing paper after pulling the vinyl off.  I have been fighting this for almost a year now.  RTape seems to work the best, but you still have to work it pretty hard to get it to stick to the backing.  Today I tried the vinegar trick...it helped, but did not completely solve the issue.  Any more suggestions, techniques, etc?  Or do we need to contact Oracal.  Thanks!

Okay so here's my verdict for R-Tape AT-60 versus HT-55... I actually like HT-55 better than R-Tape AT-60 for Oracal 631. It comes off the backing easily with R-Tape AT-60 and Oracal HT-55 but the problem seems to be *for me* with AT-60 it is a b*tch *excuse my french* when trying to apply the application tape to the Oracal because if you mess up its hard to adjust the application tape due to it high-tack nature. If you try to adjust the application tape it actually pulls off the Oracal 631 vinyl from the back. I also figured out that alot of my designs will be 15" or less so I'm going to be purchasing 15" vinyl instead of 24" vinyl the next time around. It' def good to have 24" vinyl but if someone know of the best way to apply vinyl + application tape without getting bubbles and just fubar results. Please let me know!  I like AT-60 for it's clear nature but I like HT-55 for its ease in use. Thats my two cents - hope it helps!

  4. Not sure, I have had no problems with my Perfectear.  Lifts it right off.....gotta be careful when you squeegee to the substrate though and remove the tape.....the adhesive isn't as strong as say on 651 so make sure you are pulling back over top itself.

What type of cutter for you have and what are your settings? Thanks

  5. Thank you all for your suggestions - I loosened the screw as suggested and, of course, the plotter head moves more freely.  I believe thats the problem - I'll know once I do some more cutting.

AGAIN - I am very greatful for the help I receive here.

    Thank you DescineModern !!!

No Problemo - I had the same problem. Why type of cutter do you have?If you have the pcut you can slightly pull the cover w/ the logo forward so you can tighten your screw.

  6. Hi My name is mitchell and I am new to this forum. I currently do silk screen printing with t-shirts and signs. I bought a pcut630 around november and been doing quiet a business selling small decals. Now I want to do this in a more of a business along with my silkscreen printing so I want to buy a copam cutter.  B)

Welcome from Los Angeles. Best of luck with your business and the Copam.

  7. ^ I can tell you I've tried 4 or 5 different types and none of them work for me.

I'd call oracal and ask whats up

Oracal sent me over a 10yrd roll of Oracal HT-55... and I have R-Tape AT-60 coming in on friday. I'll do a video review of the tapes and Oracal 631. The problem seems to be (for me) that I'm cutting into the backing because 631 is coming off with the backing when I apply the tape. It's a huge science of getting everything perfect. I would recommend people to first do small test-cuts and also, don't risk doing a huge cut right away. You want to make sure all components work before you waste vinyl. And Vinyl = $$$...

  8. To be honest I haven't tried it out yet. I got this info off a newletter I get from signs + banners due to people having troubles with it. It sounds like you apply the tape with the squegee and then flip it over and pull at the 180 degree away from you. You will have to let me know if it actually helps or not. I am sorry I couldn't be more help with the hands on.

I shall - I have a shipment of 631 coming this friday with both HT-55 and R-Tape AT-60. I'll do a video review and post it on YouTube.

  9. Does it weed easy and you are just having a problem getting it onto the transfer tape without bringing up the backing liner? I posted a solution for that somewhere in here if that is what is happing. It is called the oracal flip. Basically you flip the vinyl over so that the letters are now face down with the backing of the liner face up, and peal the liner at a 180 degree angle back along the table surface (not upward towards you). It sounds like a minor thing, but it will make a big difference in separating the vinyl from the liner. Hope this helps if this is your problem.

    Hi Christi,

I def. saw what you posted and have tried that. Just wondering, okay so I apply the squeegee with the letters face up first and then flip it upside down (without apply pressure on the backing) pull 180˚ and it should work?

  10. I have a P-cut and I use a 45 degree blade and 100 pressure with 651/631. Blade depth is also critical. Usually just about a half a credit card thickness is a good starting point. Just play around with the depth pressure settings and get a system down.

Nice looking font by the way.

Thanks - btw what type of application tape do you use? and does the 631 come off the backing easily for you?

  11. I am having the same problem with the 631 I ordered here, it is such a pain to get off the backing! I tried adjusting the blade every which way but have had no luck. I have no problems with any other vinyl. Oracal even send me a sample of their transfer tape and no luck. Weird.......

Ya Oracal sent me a sample of HT-55 and no luck either!

  12. That 8500 it so neat to work with. I like it....... what font did you use?  ;)

I struggled for awhile until I figured out the correct pressure...... 651 weeds like a dream when it's right.

    Hi Kenya,

I drew my company fontface in illustrator with my wacom tablet. Ya I can weed 651 and 631 great but, taking 631 off the backing is the killer. haha What type of cutter do you have and what pressure setting are you on? JW

  13. Is it not coming off of the backing or the application tape? If it is the backing you are having trouble with, does part of the backing try to stick to the tape? I have had that problem. I would try adjusting the blade in a little further so it doesn't cut so deep.

Ya some of the letters come off and some of them stick on the backing. Then it ends up ripping up the backing with it... it's not like i've seen in some videos coming off easily! haha.

The funny thing is that the HT-55 tape works great with 8500 Transparent Vinyl.... ?!

  14. I'm losing my mind haha - Oracal 631 is not coming off as easily as I would like it too. I'm even using HT-55 that Oracal sent over for me to sample. This is like a huge science getting the blade and depth pressure right.. I have PCut 24" and my Pressure is set to 90 right now.. the blade is at half the credit card size. Anybody else have tips or ideas on how to get it just right? Thanks a lot!

  15. Ok, I didn't realize that regular transfer tape doesn't really work with the 631 vinyl. I'm stuck. I've already done a bunch of work with the regular application tape and I can't get the vinyl to lift away from the backing sheet. Is there anything I can do?

    Hi,

The folks over at Oracal sent me a sample of HT-55 and so far it's pretty good. I think the problem is that you might be cutting too deep into the vinyl. I'm having the same issues, it's alot of trial and error. I'm almost there but I like the HT-55 application tape. I bought the R-Tape AT-60 and it should be coming in next week. I need a clear application tape so hopefully it works. Not a waste of my money. If you don't need a clear application tape then go with the HT-55 from Oracal. Also, they are really friendly over there so just give them a call and you'll probably get Josh. He's great, easy to work with and friendly.

    Cheers,
