On my Graphtech its a black strip and isn't really something you would know is removable since it blends in. I think my offset was set ok when I got it, but its been a while. Pressure has to be adjusted for different types of materials.

Who Has Best Heat Press For Newbie
Renegade replied to wbrowning's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
I'd recommend a Hix or Mighty 15x15 to start with. If you need cheap, then look for them used. Craigslist is a great place to find a deal. -
Works ok, but the blacks are what look a little weird to me but not like its unusable.

I need about 75 leather passport covers that can be debossed. The one they have found that they like is Johnston and Murphy, but they are flexible and just want a good quality leather cover. Anyone have a wholesale source for this kinda thing? Anybody deboss?

From the 4th to the 8th was a weekend and national holiday at least where I live. An order on the 4th would definitely be a maybe for shipping from most companies I deal with because so many people cut out early on a holiday weekend.

which is better screen printing or heat transfer??
Renegade replied to Uncle Remus's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
I use transfers regularly along with many other techniques, but I would never represent them as best solution for all circumstances. I understand that you might just be talking from inexperience, but there are many times transfers don't work well or make good sense. For example, I'd like to see how you would do some designs that require discharge printing or layering different colors and techniques on dark colors. If you are just doing simple designs in small quantities or customized names and numbers on dark colors then heat press vinyl is a better way to go. If you are regularly doing 50+ quantities then the money you will save with silk screening will pay for the setup in no time. The thickness of transfers for dark items is unacceptable by many customers as well. Transfers are getting better, but there are many situations that they just don't work well. -
I'm looking for blank black folding lawn chairs or directors chairs that I can get wholesale pricing on for imprinting them with graphics. I found the ones at bobwhite and while they are nice, they are a bit expensive. I'm looking for quantities in at least a dozen at a time.

The casual home deal is pretty good for a directors chair. I think I'm going to go with Toppers 7920 or 7924 from S&S Activewear.

I'd say there isn't really a best way to go. There are many different techniques that can be used and each of them has a niche that makes the most sense. -

Plastisol transfers work fine and give you the same feel as silk screening unless you are using waterbased inks that tend to have no hand to them. -
You'll be fine with a 15x15, but its kinda one of those things that you don't know what you are missing until you have it. If you don't have to ever move it, then the 16x20 is the way to go. The larger platen maintains heat better if you are really cranking through a bunch of shirts quickly and its a lot easier to align the larger XL+ shirts. The negatives to the larger platen is that it takes longer to heat up if you are just wanting to do a single shirt or something and moving it around isn't a very healthy event for most people.

Thinner vinyl is fine on thongs. -
Good idea! where did you get the bust from? Renee For some reason women seem to take offense to me wanting them to try on shirts and let me position graphics on their chest. So, I started shopping for a mannequin to use and found they were pretty expensive. I did find one inflatable torso that I almost bought, but one day I was at Dillards and asked a manager if they had any damaged mannequins that he would be throwing out or willing to part with. He gave me a bodice that was pretty dirty and had a broken head hole. It is really handy and takes all of my prodding and molesting without any complaints. I started bringing it with me as a crutch because its sometimes easier to demonstrate how things will look when I'm doing custom stuff on demand. Since I had it with me I started using it as a display and just throwing a hat over the broken neck hole. Now she is my best buddy and goes to most any show with me. After seeing how much use I get from her, now I would be willing to pay the money for a good used one if she ever leaves me.

I got a mannequin to use for that purpose mainly. Its just a bust, but I place the graphic and mark it and then I'm able to just adjust it out with the LogoIt! as the sizes go up. The bust is also handy for displaying shirts on a sales table or whatever.

Think things are pretty similar, but the Graphtec is cheaper and is great. -
I have some and it has a clear backing. What color is the backing?

I'd ask over here so that you'll be able to get unedited answers. Quite a few people report good success with Oki & Ricoh. http://www.appareldecoratorsforum.com/

USCutter only offers Siser and while its fine stuff its only available in 15" width, I only use 20" because its much more cost effective.

Way too rare that we hear about the good experiences when I know they are far more common than the problems. -
Used to use S&S alot. They are great. Wish they were closer to me. I'm a Sanmar fan. Anyone use River

I've noticed that sometimes when a graphic is over 12" long (length of vinyl, not width) that my cutter just stops with no error. Often I can take the same graphic and rotate it 90 degrees and then it will be less than 12" and it cuts just fine. Is there a setting I'm missing or do I need more memory or what?
