optical eye stopped working properly
flyinsignmonkey posted a topic in Copam Cutting Plotter Support Requests
I went to put a roll of vinyl with white paper backing on the plotter and measure it, but it wouldnt stop rolling backward and the vinyl shot back out the back of the machine and the pinch rollers kept rolling. I had to cover the optic sensor to stop it. then I put some black on the plotter that had a clear plastic liner so it looks dark and it didnt roll to the end and stop at the edge of the vinyl, it just measured and stopped. I went back to the vinyl I needed to cut and it did the same thing. I ended up puting a piece of black electrical tape over the eye then it would measure the width and stop, ready to cut but with what ever extra vinyl hanging over the edge that I left on the out feed side. any repair ideas? -
another one hot off the copam 4050

I get what your saying. but im coming at it from a white noise perspective. the herd mentality rarely lets certain businesses break out of the box. I encounter stiff risistance sometimes from customers who dont realize whats good for them isnt allways what they originally had in mind. there are alot for people to look at and being different from the pack was an important reason for me to convince them to break away from traditional colors -

well, around here you have mexican restaurants every few blocks. all sporting red green and white signs. you tell me if it will stand out versus the staggering sameness of the rest. -
I was able to steer the restaurateur away from red and green mexican flag colors which in my estimation are over used and dont attract attention anymore. like white noise people start to ignore it. when ever you can get the client to think outside the box within reason you can give them the punch in advertising.

thanks, cleaning up the trace of the jpg wore me out. -
the cow is a print which I meshed together with the vector art cut on the 48" copam the trace work and clean up was done on corel 11 then more tweaking on signblazer. then all was aplied to white plex faces with chrome trimcap going on channel elements internally illuminated with white leds. the design isnt mine im a subcontractor on the job converting the idea to reality.

renovated pole sign with new faces

dont want to get off track on the cultural issues of the particular bussiness, just mainly want to show what a small professional sign shop can do regularly with a 48" copam which has given me bullet proof performance for a couple years now. most shops might be scared to try a machine at the value end of the spectrum but if your struggling to grow or keep your head above water, im trying to show you can get the job done without spending 4 grand you dont have on a name brand plotter you cant afford. most of the vinyl jobs we do are typically as big as this one -

they all use them, they legalized medical pot here and I have done three "clinics" so far. there is probably 50-100 "clinics" that have popped up in the last 9 months in my city alone probably more. it is a boom industry here in colorado -

your thinking like someone whos trying to make a wage, instead of growing a business and being in business. incorporated into a large job such as this with a logo multi color and well thought out design should be a design fee. you need to price by a metric which you are clearly not. do you want to grow your business? purchase better equipment some day? replace warn equipment? expand your capabilities with more and different equipment? pay for general liability insurance? and lastly but not leastly, paying for your time is just that it is not profit, it is your wage, on top of that after expenses, which a wage to yourself is one, you must make a profit. if you see a bronze sculpture in an art gallery thats 14" tall of a horse and rider and the artist wants 2,000 what do you say? why? the bronze by weight only cost 170 dollars? how does he arrive at 2,000 when there is only 170 in materials... see what were getting at? the first time you spend 3 hours producing a knockout drawing for the customers approval and they take that drawing to someone else who underbids you because they didnt have to spend 3 hours producing a drawing they knew the customer would like allready you will get it. the words are value added service.

I like it. its good work. the other stuff is nitpicking. where I would slam you is price. you did good work, and you barely got paid for it. 400 should have been more like it at a minimum
