    Shop Caddy

I realized that when I go do a car or window that I need some kind of caddy. Was going to use 5 gal bucket but, NOW....I'll try to fabricate a similar one out of 1/8" pvc sign material (cuz I have a slightly damaged 8' sheet). Bottle area & handle are great. I also need a place/way to store/hold scrap bags. If pvc doesn't work, one of my sons owns a sheet metal fab shop in Arkansas.

best low tack paint mask- tape combo?

Oracal 810 will conform to some curves (811 for flat). I use R-Tape conform (paper). I don't have lot of experience but, these do work well together. Regis
  4. I too use R-Tape Conform paper and it's great but, R-Tape Conform Clear for layering. The R-Tape Conform Clear is thicker that I would like and will try AT-60 next time for the clear

    inspiration

You are right...inspirational. Looks like a good time for all, too!
  7. Here is almost a weeks work for me. All .040 aluminum with 1"X1" angle frame. I'll charge a lot more next time. Not "real" fancy or particularly good looking but, you can read from football field lenght away. 1st is before on one of the horozontal ones. Regis

    Cleaning vinyl residue

I have Rapid Remover and it works great. I think the Rapid-tac folks make it and I get it at Sign Supply USA here in town

A weeks work for me - 8' signs

Thanks all for the kind words. I pop riveted the sign aluminum to the 1"X1" angle aluminum fram and owner installed.
  10. Schramm, Well you're leaving in a couple days and will be out for a week or so. Can you give us a short list of tasks to do and perfect until you get back. I'm sure I'm not alone wanting to move more forward learning. Thanks, Regis
  11. Couple more generic questions... Do you use application tape the same as for sign vinyl? I'm guessing that you always apply dry (as opposed to wet application where you can reposition). The Oracal 810 that I bought streeches out of shape when I lift it to try to straighten. I'll have to try some of the vinyl you mentioned earlier. For wall border do you apply 2-3 feet at a time or layout a longer lenght? Thanks again for teaching. Regis
  12. I like the idea of some test painting so that I get a feel for how the vinyl/stencil applies and removes. But, I don't plan on trying to take the place of decorative painters or even compete with them. I know the value of experience. Designing and cutting vinyl/stencil is where I want to focus and service those with paint skill/knowledge. Sooo, I looking forward to anything that help me provide better service to them. AND, Thank you for your time & teaching! Regis
  13. Schramm, Here is what I did for your proj #1. You did not specify a size so I simply made it about 7" diameter. The base is just a black metal panel.
  14. Schramm, Got your Dover OD cut & weeded but, won't be able to paint until later this evening (Wed). I did buy some stencil vinyl. It seems easier to weed than the 651 that I've been using. Learning, learning, learning,,,, Regis
  15. Just did 3 signs 18" X 96" (largerst so far) with 12" X 16" letters. 1st one I did dry application and will never get ALL the tiney bubbles out. Then (thanks to BannerJohn's clarifications) did next 2 wet. If anybody sees me ask a question about dry applications-----please through bucket of water at me to wake me up! Never never never again will I do apply dry.... Quoting BannerJohn: "newbies should ALWAYS apply wet. The signs say "CAR WASH" so that was even more of a hint to me. This sure is a great site!

Questions about Cutter as Pen Plotter

I would think you would find a rotary engraver functions more like your plotter. It has a flatbed and the subject stays in lace while the head moves. It would be a matter of fiting a pen in place of the cutter and turn off the rotary function (simply remove belt).

Dry or a bucket of water

Tracy, There are some video links here that show more professionally but, here is what I do. Spray "throughly" with Rapid Tac then simply peal the backing off and position...ya can even move it! Then squeege to apply...getting all the water out. Lot of folks here use a formula rather then rapid tac (something like 75% water, 25% rubbing alcohol, and a couple drops of soap). What bannerjohn found that I was doing wrong was that I was leaving some small dry spots on the substraight. Once I rubbed the water around on the substraight, all worked fine
  18. I have had a few difficulties with wet as well as dry application and would like to stick with wet. With wet application, does the substraight need to be vertical? All the videos show applying vinyl wet on cars, windows, etc. I've had problem applying with signs laying flat. I'm using 651 and rapid tac. I can't seem to move the decal around much at all even though I spray a lot on the surface! I don't have easy way to prop signs up for this. Any tips appreciated.

    Where you from?

We don't have BIG bugs, just lots of alll kinds. BIG bugs, go way north like North Dakota, Alaska, or much of Canada. Them are BIG misquitoes (with short lifespan)

Good idea and fast execution! Thanks, Regis

    Wet application question.

Thanks John. I am using paper (R-tape Conform). That spray bottle of mine doesn't spray a mist, kind of mix of drops & spray. That must be it now that I look closer at the surface..... Thanks again, Regis
  23. I think it's "setting" if you are puting curlers and a permanent in the pet's hair. It's "sitting" if you are just watching and taking care of the pet. OR it's anything the customer wants it to say
  24. Now that is something I'd really like to move into, local, face-to-face. Take my laptop and sit and translate designs and color schemes into stencil or(?). So can you start feeding us some startup info e.g. who, where, etc........ears & eyes open and notepad at hand just waiting. How do we find these folk? Excellent idea about paintet/cutter meeting place on the web. Regis

    Signblazer Elements

A cutter will only cut vector graphics. There are a lot of posts here but, you will have to convert your file to a vector graphic. If you are using your cutter for the 1st time, just make a small square and circle and maybe type a couple characters and cut them. That will let you know you have it all hooked up and configured right. If your image is simple bitmap figure, you can go to "Image" then "Mode" then "Monochrome" Afert it is mono then, go to "Image" and "Vectorize". If your image is complex or has different parts, you will need to vectorize in anothe program like Inkscape or Corel. There are a lot of discussions here and lot of folks that will help.
