    new promotion

I could see a shop having one and allowing people to come in and use it, kind of like a rent a tool thing. There would need to be some kind of free software, or very cheap software, the customer could have at home, do all the design work then just bring in the file and have it "printed". I know there have been several little one off things that a 3D printer would of been able to do for me, but no way would it of been worth the cost of buying one. But if I could of designed the thing and sent the file to a shop and had it made for me for a few bucks that would of been great.

    non vinyl project

It's still hard to believe they can fit 32gigs on something that small. It wasn't that long ago that 32gigs was beyond comprehension for the home computer user.

Help me before I throw my laptop

You should be able to get a decent trace after you edit the image in say photoshop or any one of the free online photo editing web pages. There are tons of examples and how to's all over this forum.

    First Large Vehicle Project....

If you want to match the swoosh, just take a good hi-res photo of it when you get it then do a trace with your program of choice. You'll have to clean it up some but shouldn't be too much work. Or here's some random stripes I found on the forums and pulled into a single file. Side Stripes.svg

    First Large Vehicle Project....

If they don't care to match exactly I'd just look around for any stripe package and find something that looks good. Personally, that design looks like something from the 90's to me.

Clearly a norther crew. Southern boys would of grabbed a lasso and roped the thing.

This would be a good design to practice redrawing manually as well.

    Backsaving an EPS file

Inkscape by default can not open EPS files. You need a helper program called Ghostscript. A google search will find it for you along with instructions for installing it and configuring Inkscape and your computer to use it.

    Brad new plotter going crazy!

EE here. The static build up has nothing to do with the floor or the physical room the plotter is in, it is from the vinyl itself, you can feel it some times, the hair on your arm will raise when near the vinyl just after you unroll it. You can even hear it some times as you unroll it. As dakotagrafx said, it has to go someplace and if the only discharge point it through the knife and cutter head it will likely fry something. Technically the stand doesn't need to be grounded, just the vinyl. Since most stands are metal and the vinyl is making contact with the metal, grounding the stand is the easiest option.

    Backsaving an EPS file

Try this one. I opened an saved with Inkscape so I don't know for sure that your version of AI can open it but I believe it should be able to. PBZ_logo_08_1.eps

    windows 8

MS's counting doesn't make any sense. I don't even remember ever hearing of Windows1-3. Windows 3.11 was the first one I knew about. Then there was NT, NT 3.5, 95, NT 4, 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7, and now Win 8. By my count they should be up to Windows 13 by now and I probably misssed a few versions.

    Help with runtime error

Inkscape on it's own can not open .ai files. Through the use of Ghostscript it can open so .ai files but not all. Depends on howt he file was originally saved and if there are any features being used that Inkscape does not support. I don't know anything about SCALP but I would guess it suffers from the same type of problem and may be able to open some, but not all .ai files. If you can open with Corel Draw, do that then save it as an EPS or what ever format you like that can be opend with SCALP

I haven't played with Win 8, but can't you set it up to boot and work and look pretty much just like Win 7?

Should try Los Angeles some time. You can actually get a ticket for "impeding the flow of traffic" while going the speed limit.

    Bad Graphics Designers

Since the claw is clearly created by someone else and not the kid that made the unit logo I'd think there may be some copyright issues unless he contacted the owner of the claw and got permission to use it.
