  2. When I first got R2 (my mh721),they were the only cutters sold by selltopia.I have ran that machine night and day since about the first part of september of last year.I run plots that take and hour to an hour and a half to complete. That machine has done a great job for me,and made me quite a bit of money. The copam is quieter and sturdier built, but if you ran a cut on the copam, then ran the same cut on the mh721,you couldn't tell which machine did the cuts. The copam runs faster and has 64 meg dsp buffered memory. But I never had a memory problem with R2.I know you don't have a sign shop, but you're going to find that these cutters are very habit forming. And once you get one,you will want to see just what you can do with it.Also, when people find out you are cutting vinyl, they will want you to do work for them.I have done a lot of cuts for my neighbors from decals to vehicle graphics. If they had both been for sale when I bought R2 I would have probably saved up the extra money to pay for the copam. But only because it is a sturdier machine and the memory and optical eye recognition.I hope that helps.

    Importing Fonts into Inkscape?

I agree on vista.I also agree on microsoft.I had three hotmail accounts since 1993 and after I found out earlier this year that they put tracking cookies in the accounts so they could direct advertisers promos to what ever you were browsing for,I stopped using hotamil and blocked any cookies at all from microsoft.A little too much big brother for me!

    Application Fluid

I've heard of people using one drop of soap in a gallon of water. But dawn has a degreaser in it.I know it doesn't seem like it would do much, but degreaser would shorten the life of the adhesive.

    where are you from

Amarillo Texas! I'm in the gold buckle of the bible belt!
  6. I think it depends on the applications you are going to use.I use 24" when I'm running large letter for banners and for making decal runs.It takes less time if you can strip up a decal run in a 10 up group on a 24" if you're running 100 or more decals.I use 15" a lott as well, for the smaller letters and designs.I hardly ever go less than a 15" roll becuase most of the things I run take up a 15" area and I can always find something to fill an area if it's less than 15".

    Application Fluid

You can make your own application fluid. But I wouldn't use windex or anything with amonia in it.The amonia breaks down the chemicals in the adhesive and shorten the time it will stay on.And I've heard that if you put too much soap in,it will cause soap bubbles.

My SignCut license is only 30 days?

You have to go to the signcut website to register for three years. It should tell you how to register on the certificate you got with signcut. But,after you register and enter the code you should have no problem.

Am I looking for the right set up?

What the deal is is that they sell software and not cutters. So,they put the HOTTEST selling cutters on ebay in their title listing to push the software.I have never used signtools, but I know that if you follow the fourm here, you can use signcut, which is bundles with the copams and uscutters. If I were going to buy software that was not bundled with the cutters,I would buy a starter edition of Flexisign or Winpcsign. They are both very user freindly and a lot cheaper than the software at the link you show.Jm2c.

URGENT!!!!!!!!! HOW TO USE THE CUTTER

The software program has nothing to do with the baud rate settings. That is the command settings for the com to the cutter.I think the default setting for the com ports is 9600,which works for some. But you do have to drop the baud rate if the cutter is recieving commands incorrectly.
  11. I have never had anything but problems with a file saved in ai format.I always save them as eps format and have no problems.

    help with 2 color tracing

Actually I did that in photoshop with the eraser and line tool.Took the original and saved it as a jpg, then I pulled out the blue and saved it,brought back the original save and took out the red.I have been so used to using photoshop and psp over the years that I don't work with inkscape that much. But it's pretty much the same procedure for what I just did in photoshop.

New to Forums New to Vinyl Cutters

The copam is a whole different animal compared to the mh721.It's quieter, built better and it has a much better feed with the fine spline rollers. It does take some getting use to though. The measurement seems to be the problem most have had.But when I turn mine on and hit the scroll button,I don't have any material in the cutter.I place one pinch roller all the way to the left and the other all the way to the right. That gives me the freedom to change to what ever size vinyl I need from one job to the next.I have ran plots on the copam with map colors and dollar store crayons. It just seems to be able to do more than the 721.And speed wise,it's faster than the 721.I don't think I have ran mine wide open since I have had it.But I do a lot of fine detail work and that kind of work is not made for speed.Jm2c.

    What should I do???

I must say that I have had enough as well. This is a forum to help people with their cutters and to share the things they produce. And everytime I see someone who feels he has to post a problem that has to do with the company and not actual technical help,I ten to just past the post because I feel those people are not a waste of my time which to me is very valuable. The 3 stores I have and the websites I run pretty much run the same way.You have a bad part and want a replacement,no problem, but not until I get the part you need replaced. And like every damn company I offer NO refunds on shipping.I don't make money off shipping,I give it to the shipper and no other company makes money on shipping so why you think that is wrong I will never understand. And I can understand Marcus not wanting to send you a new cutter. When I see someone having multiple bad motherboards, that tells me that something is wrong on their end and not actually the motherboard. But I would not have offered you a warranty either because I would think you would just keep getting bad motherboards. If I were Marcus,I would send a tech to your shop to find out why all your motherboards go bad and charge you a service fee plus per diem for the time the tech has to spend there.
  17. I would try either installing inkscape or even typing text in windows notepad to see if you can get a good cut.The cutter only cuts the commands that are sent to it.If you are using corel, there is something you are missing in the save. You are either not grouping the design before you save or the outline for the cut is not saved right.
  18. I agree.I think .032 is the maximum for offset. But mine both run fine on .025.I would also try slowing down the cutter if you are doing smaller text.

    weird stuff

It's not that bad after you get the steps down.Believe me,repition will get you there in no time.I would suggest installing inkscape that came on the signcut cd.You really need a graphics program to work up your text or images before trying to cut them.I would also suggest using some 20# bond paper and the pen attachment to run instead of the vinyl. At least that way, your're not wasting vinyl. You could even use the 22 x 28 poster board that you can get at wal mart or dollar stores. It's a lot cheaper on you that way.And it saves not only vinyl, but blades as well.

    weird stuff

The tiles are the second icon after the design size.then on the end it has the setting for the rotation and width of the cutter size.I would try even creating a word in windows notepad as a .txt file, then bring it up in sign cut. That is probably the biggest part of your problem in using the text function.Since that function does not really function.

    PE vs LE

A dongle is a security key that plugs in to computer allowing you to run signcut licensed without an internet connection. The pe version has to be online when the check for the valid license.A dongle gives you more protability with your software and cutter. You can throw a laptop and some vinyl and your cutter in the back of a hearse and take it to car shows or any outdoor gathering, setup up the laptop and cutter through a pwoer inverter and set their and make money!

    CNC machine .......

Yeah, but it looks like work to me.I can vision it now.You sell a big 'ol hunk of man killin' wood sign to a customer, and they would expect you to hang it.I think the older you get,the less erection work you want to do,both ways!

    weird stuff

Did you change the text using signcut?I the post by mr Kjell he states that signcut is not really text capable, even though it has the text icons, the functions have been basically disabled. If you read through his posts,it will help you imensely in using signcut.I know if you change the size of the text, you have to make sure the size of the tiles are set right as well.It sounds like the cutter was trying to go farther than the 24" width, which is why it went all the way to the left and hung there. And the baud rate works at 4800 and 9600.If you have it set at 96,try dropping it to 48.

    nothing for sale?

Marcus said something to me the other day about reworking the site.I guess that's what they're doing. He didn't say what he was doing to it.He just said he was thinking of changing it up.

    CNC machine .......

They do have a nice effect to a sign. But I don't think I could use one because of the dust. That's what I like about using the vinyl for screen printing. It gives me a chance to do something I did for years, but with a lot less chemicals to breathe.
