just bought a USCutter SC Series Vinyl Cutter
slice&dice replied to threezzz's topic in General discussion
I wonder if they are still manufacturing these SC machines with the defect on the right-hand pinch-roller assembly sliding too far over (the set-screw is placed too far to the right on the rear rail, with the result of the #1 pinch roller missing contact with the lower grit roller) Can you check that and let us know if the factory ever managed to correct this problem? -
Something that's bugging me about cutting Vinyl
slice&dice replied to Tommy B's topic in General discussion
Here's the thing, Tommy --- vinyl is going to get wasted. No matter what, there will be a lot of vinyl getting thrown away (after weeding), and also backing paper (cannot be recycled, because it's waxed) and app tape, lots of app tape. If you are concerned about the environmental effect of the vinyl-cutting operation, then don't get into it, because it's simply NOT environmentally friendly (even the production of the vinyl is somewhat detrimental to our planet) As for the odd scrap you describe, I probably wouldn't remove the corner piece, but rather trim across the whole width, and the remaining rectangle then would be retained for future use. The cost of that little odd corner is so minimal that it's not even worth dealing with. But, from a strictly technical standpoint, yes, you could manage to run it through the cutter and the rollers would grab it (assuming the size is still large enough --- like 4" or so) -

If I ever get into heatpress work, I believe that a swing-away press is the preferable option. Am I wrong? -
Try installing SignBlazerElements and see if it will cut from that. http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/GetAttachment/190/24198

Regarding pricing on banners, I often use the pricing guide at this website - http://www.halfpricebanners.com/banners (they charge $12 for shipping, so I add that into my calculations) This 2x4 banner would be $30. delivered to the consumer. Online banner printers are direct competition, and you need to know it.

How long / how complicated is this installation job? The actual vinyl material comes out to be 2.5" x 13" per tire and using standard calculations equals $7.75 each (L+W/2) Thirty bucks for the stripes, and depending on the time & energy doing the install, maybe another thirty? Where are you on price?

Why are you even going through Photoshop anyway? SignBlazer can print your graphic directly

Photoshop is a raster-based program. Try exporting your SignBlazer file as a .jpg (make it as big as you feel comfortable with, maybe 3000 pixels, and Best Quality)

Starting a Vinyl Cutting business from home
slice&dice replied to Tommy B's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Tommy says: "Just a heads up, I'm not looking to start a business right now..." Why not, Tommy? Do you have a day job and have no spare time? Don't you have room in the house for this right now, or will you need to clean out the garage first? How much more money do you require? Maybe a friend will lend you $300. and you can pay him/her back in a few weeks. A sole proprietorship is simple to establish, it took me 20 minutes at the county clerk office. Cost me a grand total of $75. --- which was $50 higher than their regular processing (I requested the paperwork be completed while I waited so there was a surcharge for that Insta-Service) You realize that every day you delay, you are losing out on the ability to pocket some cash from a side business? -
Photoshop converts it to a raster graphic, hence the jaggies. Only a vector program (Illustrator, Inkscape, Corel, etc.) will import/open in the original vector format.

Tommy, I wasn't intending to be insulting, I just found that avatar picture made you look REALLY young !!! Ahhhhh, to be your age and know what I know now!!! Here is a little piece of information that you will find very valuable as you go forward -- The Federal Government (IRS) asks for people doing business to file their Income Taxes with a thing called "Principal Business Code" and you might want to consider using #541400 Specialized Design Services. -

Tommy, is that you in the avatar picture? What's your age, like 15? If you want to start a business, the first place to visit will be your local (town or county) clerk's office. Also, you have to register with the State and collect sales taxes. -
Gotta love welding !!!!

Another how would you handle this...
slice&dice replied to Coaster36's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Window perfs are simple installs, they can go on wet, and you should consider getting a helper for the first one. -
What you want is to create an "offset"

MH871 Issues...
slice&dice replied to TVW's topic in USCutter Refine Cutting Plotter Support Requests
Talk right now to USCUTTER tech support, make them aware of the problem. You don't want to be messing around with dismantling and repairing that machine on your own. Since it's under warranty, let them advise you on what steps to take. -
Hi, just be aware of the limitation of app.tape widths in that starter pack --- 6" and 12" Also, each of those rolls of vinyl is only 15' long. When ordering consumable materials for a 34" cutter, think in terms of 30" widths. I'm constantly designing with 28" wide workspace (I give myself one inch of leeway margin on both sides when cutting 30" vinyl) Suggestion -- download and install and play around with SignBlazer Elements today and compare it to SCAL trial version (also downloadable) to see which you prefer.
