  1. Was browsing the web, and came across this photo of a guy who was using his cutter with the vinyl rollers in FRONT of the machine. How many of you are doing it this way?

    HALLOWEEN

Ahhhhhhhh, cheerleaders with zombie makeup, now THAT'S a huge disappointment. Thanks anyway.

I need alittle help and some suggestions

Run it using the RedSail 1120c driver from SBE. http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/GetAttachment/190/24198 No fuss, no muss.

    HALLOWEEN

I'm attempting to get OW Jones to post pix here of those varsity cheerleaders and you're worried about 631? Well, it's YOUR thread, so I'll sit here patiently.

    HALLOWEEN

Are there really Zombies in Ottumwa? Remind me NOT to go visit. OK< These two sentences don't work together -- "I made two similar 96" x 24" banners to put on the float itself, but didn't take a picture" (hey, someone has to haul a trailer full of varsity cheerleaders, it might as well be me, right?) Whazzup with THAT???
  6. Now there's an idea. Clever. ============================== OK< bannerjohn, I'm getting the picture of how you do it. I need to walk away, I can't babysit the cutter. I'll go have some Coke, maybe crunch on some UTZ pretzels, do some weeding, talk on the phone, surf the web, go pee, check the mailbox out by the street, cut some substrates, whatever...

    HALLOWEEN

The sketchy lettering would be on the rear quarter-window, based on my earlier suggestion -- ((((( Now, take the two phrases "We are not alone" and "I want to believe" and combine them onto the rear side window (do a reverse with I want to believe, to set it apart ))))

    HALLOWEEN

"That would be fun to weed, never mind taking it off the next day." Buy one of these --
  9. Wow, this is getting complicated. First of all, Go-C Wraps asks about putting one roller through the vinyl tube, instead of placing the vinyl roll onto two rollers and balancing it and letting it spin freely. I would think that taking the roller off, and each time feeding it through the tube is a waste of energy. It works, of course, but for ease of changing vinyl, just letting it sit on top of the two rollers is the way to go. Now, regarding Bannerjohn, let me see if I understand correctly --- You unroll a length (say, 12 feet for a banner) and it doesn't touch the ground? How? That issue of long lengths was the very first thing I encountered when cutting, and I then immediately put together a media catch basket !!! Anyway, from what you're saying, you have the vinyl going in and the vinyl coming out overlapping? I need to see a video of this, I think.

    HALLOWEEN

Also, mix up some other fonts into this. Helvetica is fine for the FBI X-FILES and UNIT 51, but try adding a bit of "font fun" with the other texts.
  11. Jaybird, you said "Never heard of anybody doing it that way but there's more than 1 way to cut vinyl." Which is why I went ahead with this thread, and as it turns out, BannerJohn is indicating he does it this way, and I'm now attempting to figure out how he prevents the vinyl that's coming out the front from hitting the roll of vinyl sitting right there in the path. I await his reply.

    HALLOWEEN

That symbol has nothing to do with aliens. Here's my take on it --- The passenger door window (take off 'We are not alone') should have this alien face. (generic graphic) Put ALIEN RETRIEVAL DIVISION onto the rear door (where the biohazard thing is now) Now, take the two phrases "We are not alone" and "I want to believe" and combine them onto the rear window (do a reverse with I want to believe, to set it apart) Finally, the remaining panel over the rear wheel can have a flying saucer.
  13. Nope. That's not what is being described here. The feed is done normally, from the rear. The vinyl rolls out and goes under and up, into the machine from the back as you would expect.

    Wingstop Logo

Well, that was very kind of you OWJones. By the way, I would probably recreate/retype the text "THE WING EXPERTS" in the round center, and also DINE-IN OR CARRY-OUT along the bottom because as a vector conversion, those fonts will come out looking bad.

    Down Payment?

We call it a "deposit" (non-refundable) and 50% is standard on a sign that I'll be producing and/or installing. I am face-to-face with the client, and provide them with a job order to sign, which records the total amount of the work, indicates the deposit paid, and how much will be due at completion (including State Sales Taxes). For stuff that's done long-distance (with shipping a decal) I would assume that full payment up front is typical. As for the O-T question, the brand name is what they own. The logo or specialized font/typeface is just a graphic representation that they've created for easier recognition in the marketplace. But, after all is said and done, they can protect their identity (name) by prohibiting anyone from using it in ways that are not "official" (i.e. -- not adhering to their rules) So, the short answer is "no" --- you can't change it and then sell it.

    Wingstop Logo

Wingstop? Whazzit? Nevermind, googled it. "fastest-growing restaurant concept in the USA" Wingstop is a huge franchise, and they should be providing you with their marketing materials. Not us.
  18. Hmmmmmm, I think we're getting somewhere with this!!!! OK, so the vinyl loads around from front to back, and then comes spewing out forwards and how do you prevent it from hitting the roll sitting down there?
  19. Well, yes, at first that's what I thought, too, he made a mistake ----- However, he may have done this on purpose, deciding that having the rolls of vinyl in the front would allow better access (not having to reach over the top of the machine) I just am wondering if anyone else has their cutter configured to load in the front like this.

    Font help????

    This Owl?
  21. slice&dice

    Hi ,help

At this point, you'll have to do a little bit of experimentation, and attempt to get the Joy-Rohs machine to accept driver commands from SignBlazer that are not specific to that unit. Try the RedSail or Liyu models. Also, HPGL generic (or DMPL) Maybe P-Cut. Keep selecting different brands, until you get that stubborn thing to snap into action.
  22. Hi there, grandpa. Keep an eye on craigslist, sometimes vinyl cutters pop up in the $100-$200 range. I use SignBlazerElements in my sign store. http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/GetAttachment/190/24198

    Com ports and cutter

Those words of thanks are accepted gratefully. And I'll give myself a Gold Star. Ya know, pip, many of us here also once struggled to get things running, and I subscribe to the "pay it forward" school of thought. Keep us posted on your progress.

First big order, and I have a question

What's another word for DyeSub process? Or, how to describe the end-products from dyesub? (Full-Color Imprinting ?) I would say "Computer-Cut Vinyl" instead of Vinyl Graphix's (which looks odd, as others have noted)
