  1. The business name (dba) will contain the hyphen, yes, absolutely. That dash is now PART of the name identity of the company. It must be included, in all instances where the business name appears, on letterheads, on invoices, business cards, signs. When registering the business with your State tax authorities, that dash will be there on the paperwork.
  2. It is Graphics-Insight (with a hyphen). The hyphen is critical, and you always have to include that dash or else you will be confused for GraphicsInsight, which is another domain used by another company.

hello new sc series cutter here

Hello to you. Consider opening an account with Grimco. As for the SC, make sure your blade is really really deep into the blade holder, and only peeks out the slightest amount. In fact, you may not even be able to see it extending beyond the end with the naked eye.

    New to cutting. Hello everyone.

Congratulations, and welcome to our little forum. Last year, I opened a small sign-making store with the MH871 (34" version of the MH721) and it didn't give me a single headache out of the box. I literally went from setting it up to cutting within minutes, using SignBlazer. The only two things that are absolutely needed to reduce any glitches: 1. GROUND the machine to the stand. 2. Keep your cut lengths under 12-feet or so (with USB) I would be curious to know what agguilar meant by saying "it's very naughty" --- what specific issues do you have, that leads you to say there are 10,000 headaches to endure? (sorry for hijacking this thread, but maybe there will be some information agguilar can share which assists all users of the MH series cutters)
  6. We live in the year 2012, and without having a top-level domain name that potential clients can access easily, you basically don't exist. This is the age of Google, Facebook, and Yahoo! Obtain a domain name first, and then name your business after the domain that you've acquired. By the way, Hyphenated names are not the ideal way to go, but in this case, I think you would be well-served by using Graphics-Insight.com

    Tinkerbell

In general, what is it about Pixies and Fairies that gets us guys all worked up? Nevermind, I answered my own question ----
  8. Which leads us back to the beginning of this thread, where you specify a desire to produce FULL-COLOR decals (created in Photoshop, for instance). Take a look at this other discussion --

    Laserpoint Stand Assembly

Stand assembly is always a bit of a challenge, figuring out what goes where. Online guides, videos, drawings, threads like this one, all are a valuable contribution. The trick suggested for my SC assembly was to have a magnetic screwdriver, and that was absolutely right. One thing that isn't in this assembly diagram -- How to go about grounding your cutter to the stand. I used a self-tapping screw right into the frame, and believe me, having a cutter grounded is a BIG deal.
  10. Printing is the way to go. Really. I see what you're thinking of creating (the website SlikGraphix shows examples) and you can't compete in that field with a vinyl cutter. The full-color effects and designs that your clients want are print-graphics, not cut-graphics. Trust me on this, you will be unhappy with cut-vinyl from day one, when what you actually desire is THIS --

    SATURDAY WORK 1

You, my friend, are a very sick puppy. And I say that with the utmost respect.
  13. Yep, we get it. Back to your OP, I don't believe that you would be satisfied with a vinyl cutting machine at all.

    Heeeeeerrrre's Timmy!

These guys are signage fanatics. Just look at their visualization category on their website - http://www.sgadesigngroup.com/experience/visualization/ Massive architectural signs are a huge part of what they are all about. Now, if you can only get some of THAT work!!!!!!!!!!!

    MY CRAIGSLIST GOLDMINE

Hard to view in the pictures, but in that box of miscellaneous "sample stuff" I see what appears to be Pantone color Formula reference swatches (the entire rainbow of Pantone colors on narrow cards, each identified by number) Hopefully you didn't just toss that thing away with the rest, because they aren't cheap.
  16. In the USA, when we think of "bikes" we think of BIKES --- In the UK, you blokes think of bicycles ---
  17. DJB, you are essentially asking -- "Is starting with a vinyl cutter the right move for a fresh newb?" Well, that remains to be seen, but I would think that if you want to get your feet wet, the SC unit (24" wide with stand for $280, 34" for $90 more) might be the right way to go. By comparison, leuman's above-mentioned LaserPoint 34" machine sells for $700 (with stand) and although it's probably a nicer machine, I'm not sure sinking that much more dough into a vinyl cutter (being that you are a total newbie) is going to give you such an advantage over the SC in the final results. I've had my new SC, operating in a retail environment, for about two weeks now, and it's churning out work like nuts. My two-pence (tuppence)
  18. Yep, I took the words right out of your mouth !!! "Stickers for bikes" covers a lot of ground, to say the least. That could be almost anything, from Celtic designs, to Racing logos, to Stripes & Flourishes, to Naked Girls. A few days ago, I splurged for a set of 10 DVD's which contain thousands of graphics (all cut-ready) called MEGA-VAULT. Honestly, it's too much, and I'll have to spend quite a bit of time just browsing and getting a feel of what's contained on them. However, just today, a lady walked into the studio asking if I could make a sign telling dog-owners to be more considerate about fouling-up her property (you know what I mean). Sure enough, on one of the DVD's there was a series of signs with all sorts of messages about dogs (in the Swap Meet section). I showed her the design ("Please, Clean Up After Your Dog"), she was thrilled that I had such a thing available. It's a crazy business we're in.
  19. Shhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone else, this is just between the two of us. You know, to this very day, I really miss having a macintosh because of the amazing ability to change icons in the MacOS, and the fantastic assortment that's available on that system.
  20. The best way to keep things straight, is to change one of your shortcut icons to differentiate between these 2 different cutter-setup versions of SBE. Now, when you try to do that, no alternate shortcut icons will be offered automatically (right click on the icon, choose Properties, and hit the Change Icon button in the dialogue, and you'll see ONLY the standard SB icons). So, what's the secret? Navigate in that Change Icon dialogue box to the following path --- (open SHELL32.dll) C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll Pick any one that you like.
  21. One of the features of SignBlazer is the ability to have several copies of it open simultaneously. So, sure, it would appear to be no problem to define different cutters in each of the open application windows and send them both out to be processed/cut.

Insta-Banners are pretty cool, easy to work with

Ahhhh, well, my friend THAT is the secret of this stuff. It's like MAGIC, and I have no idea how they managed to create something like this, that weeds effortlessly, but doesn't peel away from the backing by itself. You have to see it to believe it, and once you try it, you'll be slapping your forehead "Wow, how simple, why didn't anyone think of this before?" I did another one today for a graduation party, and the customer handed me $40 and said -- "Awesome job" (the entire graphic for this banner actually was on a special CD that GreenStar puts into in the sample kit, filled with cutter-ready example artwork for banners, all I did was load it into SignBlazer, and hit CUT)

    MY CRAIGSLIST GOLDMINE

Dude, you are a youngster, using CD's as coasters. Back in MY day, we used floppies. By the way, I assume those coasters in the bags are foam rubber with cloth tops, that's what they appear to be in the pix. So, Cut-vinyl won't stick to 'em, unfortunately. It sure would have been nice if they had hard acrylic plastic tops to affix vinyl decals.
  24. Sometimes just the addition of a dash will turn a "taken" name into one that's available. Graphics-Insight is available.

    MY CRAIGSLIST GOLDMINE

Just the vinyl-roll racks are a $50 value. The round things appear to be COASTERS. From the looks of things, these were materials from a screen-printing shop, that also was working with cut-vinyl stickers/decals. You can take those plastic end-plugs and build a multiple vinyl-roll holder with them, with the rolls standing vertically. Also, since you are in Arizona, one of 19 states that do not require a DMV license-plate on the front of a vehicle, you're going to have a decent market for custom vanity plates, and that's a good place to start making money with this kit.
