Whazzup, goodm4n? R u ready with a11 the accessories & workspace? My suggestion is to begin with SignBlazerElements software, and skip the SCAP. http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/GetAttachment/190/24198

    need help vectorizing

I'm going to jump in here, because sometimes it's worth having a graphic that isn't 100% silhouette, and contains a few minor highlights that allow the object to be better identified. This auction hammer is one of those elements, and if you look at the original one (the raster graphic) it's got some dimension that would be nice to carry forward in the final result. In other words, the woodworking of the handle and head that was done on a turning lathe provides the hammer with a certain 'look' that gets lost in the pure silhouette. That being said, I have no idea how to accomplish that in the vector conversion. Just thought it would be an interesting project to attempt, and maybe someone else here can provide the desired results.

You know who I am --

With over 1800 posts already, I'm certainly not new around here. However, I'm about to introduce another cutter into my sign shop, and wanted to offer the opportunity to follow me along as I get it up and running. Here's the story so far --- I started the sign store in Sept. 2011 with an MH unit. One fine sunny day, I tripped on the USB cable and it ripped out the USB port, breaking it off from the board inside. Called USCUTTER to order a replacement board and decided to get an SC machine and keep the (fixed) MH around as a backup. SC went into service as primary cutter in May 2012. It runs perfectly with serial connection driven from SignBlazerElements. Last week, I noticed an eBay auction for a machine called SEIKI. No reserve and the auction began at $180. Auction ended with me winning at $202.50 So, Monday a box will be arriving with a SEIKI cutter, and I'm hoping it's quieter than the SC (or the notoriously loud MH) and with any luck, this thing is going to be plug&play with SignBlazer using a Roland driver. Stay tuned for updates on this endeavor. I'll be back here with more info tomorrow.

Uh-Oh. Today I was cutting some stuff with the SEIKI, and suddenly it went haywire, making random cuts everywhere. Now, the keypad is non-responsive, and none of the buttons work. What can I say? It's the end of the road for that machine.

  18. Brad, that's kinda why I started this thread --- to allow people to show how they managed to begin earning decent money from basically scratch. I'm sure there are thousands of similar stories, all across the USA. We are members of a very important part of American enterprise (sign makers), and I'm proud to have shared advice and provided others with the same good feelings I have come to experience.

It doesn't seem much quieter. In fact, it has a fairly annoying high-pitched motor, and I'm very tempted to go ahead and list it on craigslist.

You know who I am --

This ongoing nightmare project is incredibly frustrating !!!! I received the cable from China today. It actually came with a disk that contained the drivers (PL2303 USB-to-Serial) However, after installing, my Device Manager indicated a failure of the COM port (yellow triangle with an exclamation point, and Error 10 code -- Device Cannot Start) Hmmmmmmm, a quick look online for a solution provided me with the advice to uninstall the Driver and get rid of the included SER2PL.SYS file, and then replace it with one that is available online from another source. http://sysfiles-download.com/sysindex/ser2pl.sys.html#edown OK, I did that, and believe it or not, it worked, eliminating the port error and getting the computer to deal with the new cable. However, when trying to run SignBlazer (my preferred cutting software) using the Roland PNC1000 cutter driver, the SEIKI refused to respond. At that point, I merely selected another standard cutter model (Creation PCut) and that got the SEIKI into operation. Unfortunately, it didn't cut properly, and produced random lines all over the text. After trying several other models, I settled upon the GENERIC DMPL driver, which seems to be fine. My test cuts are right on target. So, there you have it. I'm proud of myself for going the distance and making this cutter come to life.

    Looking at buying the SC

It certainly cuts 3M SCOTCHLITE reflective (for non-regulated signs & vehicle markings) That stuff is relatively lightweight and there's no issue with cutting it whatsoever.
