    De-wire-fication of stuff

Well it cant be THAT much slower... Plotter needs...what?...9600 baud ? And to compare to 54megabits its miles. Even if its one or even half a megabit... its way more than needed. Plus i have an excellent reception all over my house. Linksys does its job well. What i'm trying to establish is if people tried this wireless plotting thingamajiga in practice...

    When's a good time for a chat??

I have connected to chat via proper irc client. No one there I hate them chat applets. Put in a proper shoutbox on the forum or something.
  3. Hi folks. Well, i've started to de-wire-fy my home. Net is wireless, server access is wireless, headphones are wireless (love em Philips HD1500u's ), some other home appliances that dont draw much juice are wireless (power wise). Bought 3 laptops this weekend, all wireless of course (for those with "WHY 3 " answer is it was triggered by me buying a plotter driver lappy, so my mom and my sister decided to want one too all of a sudden )... Now, next thing i'm thinking - how to make plotter work wirelessly ? I know, i know, plooter is not a mobile device. But my house being what it is cant stand wires in any way. Small and all my stuff is spread across 2 floors. Plotter and plotter driver lappy will be upstairs, main design machine, that may be used for direct cutting (if wireless allowing) is downstairs. Also i may move printer upstairs to declutter downstairs, etc, etc... You get the idea. Now have any of you tried to run MH720 or CP-2500 wirelessly ? If so - how and what sort of equipment i need ? Some sort of wireless printing server ? Cheers....

    MH721 questions

I can get MH721 right here in UK (refinecutters.co.uk) for mere 350gbp (500$, yeah, yeah, rip-off brintain phenomena), plus shipping of about 20gbp ($40). Why i hesitate is knowing that refine is so "last gen" I'm not chasing trends here, but i'd rather pay a bit more but end up with newer tech. If Uscutters comes up with some stupid number on Copam i'll get MH721. Requested exact quote (KenImes, still waiting for that email) from USC including shipping and customs excise. I have never imported stuff from US, especially this big...size wise. Its bound to attract her majesty's revenues and customs service's attention. I've bought countless knick-knacks off ebay from US, none were pulled by HMRC. But they were small packages or envelopes... Not the bloody plotter in all its glorious size

    MH721 questions

Technology goes forwards. Stuff gets cheap. Hi-tech stuff. Remember how much 8086 cost in its heyday ? 10k ? now my watch has more processing power than 8086 and only costs a fiver. So, yeah, i do expect 200$ machine to perform. Plus pricetag of 2k doesnt guarantee all the fancy stuff you want too. There are many examples of shiny things not being gold...

    Color samples/bricks/fans

Hi guys and gals... I'm looking to buy (or freeload) bricks of samples of various vinyl makers. Any ideas where to get some ? In ye olden times we had some of oracal, avery jac and whatnot, but i cant seem to find any on sale anywhere. It'd be nice if sellers shipped to europe... Bricks will not be used just for material demo, but also as color reference for my customers. Thanks a bunch...

    UK Refine outlet

Nope, not so simple. Now they want my bank details, send over small amount (takes ~3 days), then i have to tell them what that amount was. Plus i'm not keen on giving paypal my bank account info just for that. Heard too many horror stories about paypal fu***ng around with people's accounts...

    UK Refine outlet

I'm starting to hesitate on MH721 due to Copam 24". I want one. Who sells'em in europe ? Been thru ebay, found USCutter listings, but one thing that really hacks me off is no assurance how much if at all will customs rip me off. And how long is it taking to deliver (incl. customs). Also i dont have "confirmed" paypal, though i have already bought 65 items of various value without a hitch. What sort of poers upply is there ? 110v ? switchable 110-220 ? Gah...money...burning.......hole....oh-the-pain !!!... No, really. Need to get equipment asap, loan is burning thru my wallet... Its just that i dont want to end up with inferior product...

    MH721 questions

I dont expect it to do 1-2mm LETTERS. For an arial i'd expect something of 5-6mm caps. Done this on mutoh. and on fat flex, i've been surprised about that for some time. Now i suppose i expect MH721 to match it.

    UK Refine outlet

Can someone at USCutter confirm that refinecutters.co.uk are legit retailers in UK ? Will there be the same level of service US people get for refines ? Parts and all if broken or needed a spare/replacement. Weird thing is that paying system is paypal...

    Heat Press

I'm looking for one RIGHT NOW. I only worked on Sisser TS-One swing-away, that was pretty good, quality build, heavy as hell. But when i learned of the price my jaw dropped (~3400$)... I need a press and fast. Any ideas ? Do US Cutter sell their presses in Europe ?

    Europe hails US(Cutter ? :D )

Hello folks. New to the forum and new (again(explanation pending)) to signmaking. At the moment reside in UK, Northern Ireland. Weather is cr@p, but people are nice (mostly). Planning on purchasing Refine MH721 this weekend. Been doing signs for over 15 years, with last 4 stuck in architectural illustration and draughting (acad and corel mostly), computer fixing for hardware illiterate bosses of mine.... Used many different techniques (manual-cutting, anyone that's where you use a proper knife ), plotters, software, computers (obviously)... Now, getting tired of all the BS my boss gives me and not getting any younger, decided to start a small family run business for signmaking and textile printing. Have to re-learn almost everything about signmaking. Materials changed, equipment got cheap as peanuts, some new techniques sprung up. So, dont be surprised if i'll be asking n00bish questions. I'm not afraid to look as i'm full of n00bium, what i'm afraid is lack of knowledge... My noobishness will mostly show on actually applying graphics, since i was more or less on "design and cut" end of operations. Someone else would be sticking that on... Now will hafta do all that meself :S Still need to choose a heat press for flex, getting mighty confused about that one, because only worked one thru my entire career - Sisser TS-One swing-away, which is brilliand and costs bloody fortune for a simple thing it is... (~3400 USD including cap head and plate. according to xe.com) Any idea where i can buy TS-One in europe ? Preferably UK. That mutha is heavy, shipping charges will be a bitch. If i can dig up my old photos of jobs done, will post them. So, any and all help appresiated and dont kick me too hard for being semi-n00b P.S. N.Ireland based people, if any, PM me.

    MH721 questions

Hello. I'm about to buy MH721 as is, but still want to know some things that are not on european Refine site. 1. What ports are there ? I expect it to have physical COM and LPT ports. USB is irrelevant really. 2. What about COM ports surge protection ? I ask because we had loads of MUTOH's getting busted COMports within couple of months of buying. Same happened to one roland and some old rubbish one i cant remember name of. All machines were on different computers so faulty port conputer-side can be ruled out. Some of my friends who work for different companies say the same esp. about Mutoh's. 3. I gather that MH uses roland blades, but i'll ask anyway. Will standard roland blades fit MH's ? 4. Will i have any problems cutting thick thermo vinyls ? There are 2 varieties, sticky thin and nonsticky thick thermoflex. I'm worried about latter. 5. Plotter will be mostly used for flexing shirts and caps and whatnot, how's the small details of cuts ? What is the smallest Arial style letter it can cut ? (always been a benchmark for a precise plotter) With Mutoh we were able to cut and properly weed designs with lines of 0.2-0.3mm thickness on thin sticky flex. 6. Dies it have a feedback function, to feed computer with dimensions of loaded media (width of loaded roll according to roller positions)? We were dong it a loooooooong time ago ('95?) on a small roland (cant remember model exactly) with hi-cut software (dont know the version), where upon loading media hi-cut would resize a page to cuttable dimesions, exactly. Meaning i can cut to 0.0254 off the edge of physical baundary of the plotter. Saves truckloads of vinyl and prevents sizing mistakes... I know some questions are a bit much, but what-a-hey, one can hope, right ?
