    first job

my first real decal job, and first install. everything 2 layer, black and lime tree green
  2. I wasn't sure I wanted to take this job in the first place (wasn't sure i could do it) and was somewhat pressured into it, but it's ALMOST done and I'm starting to feel proud of myself in accomplishing it. But I'm lost entirely on how to price it. I've run it through several of the price calculators found on here but they all seem to come up with very different amounts. The job is a logo on each door, fleet truck numbers and a 4 inch straight stripe across both sides (of a Peterbilt), all of it is 2 layered. I had to recreate the logo, after searching for the font for the logo and numbers. My actual time line for the logo was about 8 hours, but to be fair to the customer I used what I learned and timed what it took me to create it start to finish and that took about an hour. It took just over an hour and a half to cut and weed everything. My material cost, including app tape is about $60. I still have to install, how do i price the install when I know that it will take me a lot longer because it's my first? I know that if I can get this one finished to the customers satisfaction and can find a price that will work, I will be getting a lot of repeat business from him and through him. Oh and the reason that I'm really worried about this is this is for my husbands boss, which is why i was pressured into taking this job (sort of putting my money where my husbands mouth is). Thank you all.

Outline on text - how do i do it?

I'm still really new but am working on something similiar, under manipulation try expand/outline/inline option. it's worked for the design part of what i'm trying to do haven't cut it yet. If you have the signblazer learnguide it's page 161 (hour 5). If i'm wrong or it's not what your looking for sorry, but i hope it helps

    First Decals

Got my cutter (mh721) just over a week ago...did the silverado sign on both sides of my truck in greenstar, and the skull and pistons in oracal 8510 Etched glass on the back window. Thanks to everyone on here who posted instructions and advice, I'd never have figured it out with out all your posts.
  6. The 1-888 number doesn't work from Manitoba either, but their regular number is listed under the locations tab on their website
  7. thank you very much everybody

www.cuttingedgesandcarving.com will approve free emails if ALL the information on the registration is filled out....according to their forum terms and rules
  9. thanks Rodger, USC having a forum that included criticism and complaints section is one of the reasons I decided to order through them, but forum members who freely offer advice and answers was a bigger one! so again Thanks to everyone who takes the time to help newbies like me out
  10. Picking it up in ND, my husband is a truck driver so if he can he's grabbing it on his way up, or else it'll be a nice "sunday drive"
  11. I placed my first order today, and I have never dealt with a company that actually HELPED me save money, made suggestions and explained their reasoning for suggesting the alternate item, was friendly and had a sense of humor! Thank you Levi! AS WELL, thank you to everyone who posted their knowledge for everyone else to make informed choices when looking into a cutter! It helped tons to make me feel confident to make my selections and place my order. SO THANK YOU!.....the only problem is patience is definitely NOT something I'm very good at!!!!

    new, looking for advice, suggestions

Thanks! I looked at the pcut originally, and searched on the forums but I really couldn't find anything concrete that warrants the extra $100, especially when I have a set amount of available funds. I do realize that yes I get what i pay for. I have no expectations that this is going be more than a hobby, but if it turns into more...I have my eye on a copam, lol. Again Thanks.
  13. thinking of making my order and was looking for advice, suggestions as well as some questions answered. I am thinking of ordering the USCutter Value T-Shirt Starter Package - MH721/ 15 x 15 Clamshell Heat Press as well as the Sign Shop In a Box supply starter pack. I have a acer laptop running windows 7...is a keyspan needed, or am i better off finding a desktop running xp? Instead of the greenstar starter pack that i was looking at, i am thinking I may be better off buying a few rolls of oracal instead. Color wise I was thinking white, black, red, silver and a cobalt blue in the 651 and possibly brown and black in the 631 for some wall art...are these the best starter color choices? also I was wondering if it is worth ordering the extra roland blade holder and blades right at the start. As well, seeing as how I am in Canada I was wondering if there would be any issues in warranty if I had it sent to a parcel service in the states and picked it up from there as I am only 2 hours from the border and even at these prices the fuel is a third of the cost of shipping.(asking on the off chance anyone else has done it that way). Thanks!
