    Pinstriping for Marine applications

Thank you Mz. Skeeter once more. I might have to do that. I have been to a lot of auto paint suppliers and they told me that "no one does pinstriping anymore". A friend is an auto painter and he is going to talk with his rep. regarding vinyl pinstriping. He also told me that they only 'paint' stripes. They don't use vinyl pinstriping anymore. I haven't given up...damn it, I will find some pinstriping in Canada! Thanks again everyone!

    Pinstriping for Marine applications

I do own a Graphtec. The boat is about 26 or 27 feet long, maybe a bit longer. The original striping on the boat consists of 1/8th, 1/2 , 1 inch, double pinstriping and larger stripes, plus graphics, three different colors. To cut a run of 1/8 inch striping, sort of intimidates me, especially applying the application tape, but I guess that I could cut numerous widths in one shot. DUH! What vinyl would you suggest for marine applications? I have alot of FDC vinyl on hand 4200. I think that this would work. But I thought it would be so much easier to buy the pinstriping, then cut the largers stripes, boat names, numbers etc. myself. But by the looks of it, I might have to just buck up and cut them myself. I am sort of committed now, as all of the old stripes have been removed. Just to let you know, I needed to use FOUR stripe remover wheels to take off all of the stripes, at 30 bucks a pop. Tried heat, good on some of the stripes, no good on the silver stripes. If anyone should know of a supplier in Ontario for the double pinstripes, please let me know. Thank you Mz. Skeeter...

    2000 Ford Mustang debate

I have been asked to put dual stripes on a 2000 Mustang. Hood, roof, truck, etc. I have been checking on the internet to try to find out how wide the stripes should be. From what I can tell, they are dual 10 inch stripes. My 'consultants' tell me that they are wider. Does anyone really know what width the stripes should be? This year also has a hood vent that I will have to accomodate. I will also be creating a window/windshield visor for this car and the inset letters to go into the recessed bumper. Any idea about dimension for the bumper letters? I still have to go and take measurements, so don't get angry at me for asking. It is just that I would really like to be able to create the most authentic decals for this year of Mustang. As I have never attempted this before, (don't laugh) would you suggest that I do the install wet or dry? If the suggestion is wet, should I make the application liquid or purchase rapid tack? Thank you, as always for your time...

    Please Let Me VENT!!!

Thank you to all for the comments. I am truly embarassed that I let this person get to me so much and then felt the need to vent here. I really didn't think that I had 'SUCKER' written on my forehead, but apparently I do. This 'friend' has called numerous times since to make changes. I did NOT use the Toronto Maple Leafs logo. She finally agreed that this was tacky and illegal. The funny thing is, had she given me more time and, a mere thank you, I would have gone full out for her. Live and learn...

    Please Let Me VENT!!!

This really has nothing to do with vinyl...I just need to vent. A 'friend' came over today, without warning to ask/tell me to make up a seating chart for her son's wedding that takes place this coming Saturday (450 people). I will be attending this wedding, so I felt that I couldn't refuse. I asked her why she waited so long to get this done and she replied that "Staples" needed seven days to complete this. She had no clue what she wanted, her name chart had only first names, no surnames and she needed this done NOW! So up to this point it took a couple of hours and I got it set up the way she liked it. I was in the process of finding the actual fonts from the wedding invitation (she had no clue what fonts she chose when getting these invitation made) and the graphic to make a watermark like the one on the invitation so it would match up perfectly with the orginal when she tells me that she has to go now and do laundry. K, fine, I will finish it on my own (better this way anyhow). Another few hours go by with me looking up the two different fonts from the invitation (which I finally found) and trying to recreate a 2 inch by 2 inch damask graphic to use as a watermark. Finally it is complete and I am very happy with the results. So I send it to her via email. She calls back and tells me that her son would rather have the 'Toronto Maple Leafs' logo as a watermark, rather than the damask that I used. I could have screamed! Not only do I know that this is trademarked, it is TACKY for a wedding. What would you guys have done if you were in my place? Geeze... Thank you for letting me vent!

Thank you once more Jay. I think that it is time to just unpack this thing and play with it. Can't figure out why this is so intimidating to me! But if anyone else would like to jump in with their information/opinions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Jay for the information. I have an idea of what type of vinyl to purchase to print on. (Sihl Inkjet Vinyl & Papillo) I would like to create indoor and outdoors decals. From my understanding, for outdoor decals, I will have to over laminate (eg. Oraguard Film Clear) or use spray laminate them on them so they will last. I have soooo many questions that are probably easily answered, but I cannot for the life of me find them online. I am concerned about the ink clogging or drying out should this printer not be used daily. Although I just read that I can use it daily to print up documents etc. (duh) What I don't understand is, should the graphic be vectorized before I print it or just a JPEG? I really haven't tried contour cutting with my cutter. So I have to learn this also.

Can You Convert A Cutter into an Engraver?

Thanks for the comments. I was wondering if I put a 'blank' on a cricut mat and engraved it, wouldn't the shavings stick to the mat?
  24. I had read somewhere that you can purchase 'conversion kit' of some sort to convert a cutter into an engraver. (to engrave soft medal or plexi-glass) Is this correct? Does it bugger up the cutter? Has anyone ever done this to their cutter? Any information or links would be greatly appreciated. Thank you... Probably a dumb question, but I am curious...

Can You Convert A Cutter into an Engraver?

Thank you OWJones, I have looked at this site. I just wanted to know if this could mess up my cutter, is there a special software to use, etc. I have a Graphtec CE5000-60 and also a cheap Chinese cutter (also a Cricut, don't laugh) and was more curious than anything. Any thoughts from anyone else?
