Getting a vinyl cutter and need some experienced info.
Superdak replied to E3cubestore's topic in Mac Users Board
Got a Graphtec CE5000 running off my 27" iMac, been running it for a good 8 months now without any issues. Using Illustrator to design, CutMaster2 to get it to the cutter. I'm sure the ability to run it from an ipad would be cool, but how practical is it? Me personally, I would trade the novelty of doing that on a cheap 12" cutter for a 24" cutter that would do just about any size job you could throw at it.... because you may only be doing small things today, but you never know about tomorrow! -
Will do. I originally quoted them as aluminum signs, but the customer needed to keep the costs down, so we went with sintra.

I think I'm gonna go with the graphitec.... just seems like more bang for the buck.
-
Only problem is for a few hundred more I can get a new graphtec with a warranty.
-
Leaning that way, only thing is a local shop has a used rolland GX24 for $1100 I could be playing with tomorrow!

Did some signs & banners for a storage place in town! 4x8 signs on 6mm Sintra 4x12 banners (did 2, got 2 more to do) Hardest part was moving the PVC sintra around

Got some funds available.... looking at buying a new cutter, but can't decide between the Roland GX-24 and graphtec ce5000. Both look like extremely nice machines. Kinda leaning towards the Graphtec because of it's higher downforce rate, but it seems like the roland's software seems to have a better rep. Kinda a big jump from the MH-721 I currently own, but I'm ready for it. So any input from you guys??

Nice work! I can only imagine the repeat business with the amount of sheet metal they replace on a weekly basis!
-
Thanks for the info! I'll be looking into it. Would the same process apply to printing on coloplast??
-
That looks really good! Kinda thinking something though... a few LED's in the back of that puppy would really make that pop!

Am I on the right path?

Sounds good to me. Only suggestion I have is when buying equipment you know you're going to upgrade, try to buy used or on the cheap. That way you're not taking a huge depreciation hit if you sell in the future, and you can make your money back quicker. For instance... I started large format printing about a year ago. Started with a HP OfficeJet 7000, got it for $99 at staples. Used that till I made $700 from it, then went and got a used Encad 750 54" Printer. Ran that till I made $2100 off it, sold it for $1000 and then got a brand new Canon ImagePrograf 24" (better quality, less aggravation). Probably will keep the canon for a while, but may buy another 44" canon with what the 24" is making. Point is.... spend less and you make more to buy better in the future. -
Here's a couple things I did with my high school kids

Really nice work! Now I need to dig out my sandblaster from the shed and give it a shot!
