To build or not to build??

I am considering a new computer to use with my cutter. Right now I am not sure if I want to try and build one or not. Some of the main thing that I would want are: dual screens large memory large hard drive maybe 2 serial ports If any one has some ideas to guide me, I would sure appreciate it.

    And So Much For Advertising

What you might think about asking him is if he would be able to wait and let you do it after this race and before the next race. I never hurts to ask, as the worst thing that he could tell you is no. So take a chance and see what happens.

    Starting the Journey....

What Plotter / Cutter ? 24" Laserpoint. One of the main reasons that I got this unit is because of the basket that came with it, as I was working out of a shop where we also work on tractors, trucks, and whatever else needed fixin. Where do you get Vinyl? Why? So far, I have ordered most of my vinyl from signwharehouse.com. They have been the cheapest that I could find so far. But now that I know feller's will match prices, I will probably use them until uscutter starts selling 15" rolls. What thickness vinyl? Never thought about the thickness before. I have a few different brands, and I can tell a difference when I use it for sand blasting. What colors to initially buy when getting started? How much? Sizes? Like firemalt said, start with just your basic colors (white, black, blue, red, and maybe yellow.) As for the size, the only thing that I have in 24" is a 50 yd roll of black, and I use it a quite a bit, signs, shadows on banners, and what have you. Everything else that I have is 15" x 10 yd rolls. What accessories do you suggest? Large papercutter? Firemalt said it best. A few hobby knives, a couple a pair of good scissors, cutting mat, tape measures, rulers, and I am probably forgetting something. What type of backing material? I am using R-tape right now. I dont know what type it is as it came in a starter kit that bought when I first bought my cutter. Never tried the clear tape yet. Applicators..? Types...? Personal preference. But just use the 4" squeegees, and never had any problems on large graphics. Graphics? This forum has been one of my greatest resources for graphics. And one other thing that you need is plenty of work space, especially when doing some of the larger stuff.

To build or not to build??

Now the next thing that I will need to know is, what are my options to get my wireless internet to pick up in my shop. It is probably about 100'-150' from my router to there building where I am moving all of my stuff to and right now I cannot pick it up over there. Would I be able to get another router and set it up in the other building, or will I need to go a different route??

To build or not to build??

thanks for all of the help so far. Keep the ideas coming. One other thing that I forgot to mention is that I want it to have XP on it, as I dont want to try and figure vista out just yet. Maybe when I get a laptop for my truck I can try it, but not right now. Grace and Jenny, BOTH of you should know better than to jack my thread like that!!!!! j/k Fivestar, PM coming your way.

A couple of Beer Mugs !!!

I hadnt thought about that ken. I did a 8" mirror this morning to take down to a florist that I know. Didnt even think to get a picture of it first though. But it did have some small fine lines in it, and it came out looking pretty good. One thing that I have noticed though, is that you need to use a thicker vinyl, for lack of a better word, or it will have a few small pits in it from the blast that are not too noticeable.

    Wanna share your photo?

Well, I guess I will jump on the band wagon and post a picture of me and my youngest son from when we went fishing a few weeks ago. By the way, my son is the one that caught this fish, he just didnt want to hold it.

    Some more mirrors...

I was a little bored today, so I decided to see how some of my mirrors would look sand-blasted. They turned out better than I thought they would, but I do need a little bit more practice on em. I also finally got a picture of the mirror that I made for my wife back at mother's day. I had to run into town today, and I went by a flower shop that is owned by my former plant manager's wife and talked to her about buying some of my stuff like the mirrors and maybe some wall art. She said to bring something by for her to look at and she might buy a few things from me, so maybe this will help me out to sell a few more things. Good or bad, let me know what you think about them. cheapest place to buy Oracal 651?

The only colors that I keep in 24" is black and white. All of my other colors are 15" at this time. To me, it is easier to handle the 15" for most of my stuff.

Vinyl for compound curves like helmet?

Take your time and a lot of patience. The jet ski that I am working on has a few curves that have similar curves to it and I had to take a little bit longer than it usually take to lay something down. I did use a little bit of heat on it also, but not much. And I also did them wet.

we need a buy, sell, trade section

I think that instead of deleting the thread, it should just be locked. That way if some one else has a similar item, they will have an idea of what it might bring.

    My latest work.

I am working on a See-doo jet ski for my brother-in-law. It will be getting all new graphics on it. I will post more pictures as I get it done. I am using a graffiti style font that I found on dafont.com and the "XP's" are layered. I had some flames on it last night, but he took it out to the lake today to try and get it tuned up and needless to say the flames didnt look near as good when he got back. But they were not very good, so it didnt bother me none. Right Rear: Left Rear: Front:

    ton truck and gooseneck trailer

Does any one happen to have a 1-ton truck with a flat-bed gooseneck trailer? I thought about making a couple of sign for our tractor show this weekend to put up where the trucks will be parking, instead of using the poster board signs that we usually use.
