  1. Have been using ImageStix (matt finish) to print decals on either an Epson pigmented or Dell color laser printer and then contour cutting. Pigmented shows signs of UV burnout after 6 months, laser held up somewhat better.

Have sheets of 3M ControlTac (gloss finish) laying around here that I had been told were receptive to laser printing. Your post finally prompted me to test a sample today and I am extremely pleased with the visual result. When time permits I will make a small decal to test the UV durability on our vehicle. This approach won't suit everyone; but for those who watch their budget, it may be an acceptable alternative to consider.

The Dell and ControlTac were given to us after a business shuttered their doors. They purportedly used this set-up to create exterior signage for their properties and vehicles; so I am hopeful this method has durabiliy.

So how satisfied are you overall with color laser on vinyl?

I am looking to get started,,, and if I can get away without investing thousands in a printer to start,, that would be a good thing.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  2. It's not so stupid a question...There are some printer cutter combos that do both..I have a seperate system..Printer and a seperate cutter...My cut/print program places reg marks on the print and sends the same to the cutter...Once it's done printing I take it out of the printer and load it in my cutter..I align the reg marks and tell it to cut..It finds all four reg marks and then cuts my design..

I like my set up because I can cut while I print somethig else..If you print and cut on the same machine then you have to wait for it to finish both before printing or cutting something else..Matter of taste which you like better...

So what is required as far as a printer goes? Again,, I ASSUME it requires a special printer? I have google searched,, searched here,, and not finding any specifics.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  3. OK,, I want to use my PCut to cut airbrush stencils,,, I figure inkjet photo paper would be a good stencil material,, yes or no? I have been experimenting,, don't know how far to push it, my latest attempt was 20 cut speed,, 225 pressure, with a 45deg blade, doesn't get it done yet,, but it is very close. I have 60deg blades ordered,, but don't have them yet. What are your thoughts,, should I increase pressure,, wait for the 60s, or use a different material. I have hand cut photo paper,, and they are reusable, but if I can cut with the PCut that is better for me. I have some thin cutting sheets that came from Bed Bath and beyond,, ( I think that is where the wife got them, but I don't want to ask yet,, 'cause she doesn't know they are "missing") I use repositionable adhesive to hold the material while it is being cut.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  4. I was given a graphic to cut out,, which is letters,, but as far as I know not a font. ( it was given to me as a .jpg) Anyway,, there is a "P" and an "O" that it doesn't cut the center out. Well it does cut it out but in a separate tile, How do I get it to cut it out all in one tile?

    Thanks,

    Tom

  5. Ok,, years ago I saw a font and now can't find it,, it looks as if a monster or something clawed at the font,, (horizontally) I know this is an impossible question,, but maybe,,,, just maybe,,,, someone will know.

    Thanks,

    Tom

I just realized I had posted this in the wrong section,, so I copied it here

  6. Ok,, Spent 3 hrs on the phone with Microsoft,, and Asus,, MS blamed it on Asus,, Asus blamed it on the driver,, so three hrs of my life wasted,, I am more leaning towards the Asus as being the problem. We tried to download drivers from Asus,, MS,, and still have the same thing. I am thinking this will be the last Asus machine I ever buy,,, The head phone port went bad shortly after I bought it,, (mechanical issue which won't let the speakers work) which I can live without,, I usually use head phones anyway,, but this issue kind of really ticks me off.

    THANKS,

    Tom

  7. sounds like you are referring to the driver that came with your usb to serial cable. You will need to either purchase a windows 7 compatible Usb to serial cable. Buy a Keyspan adapter. or go the Cable brand company website, and see if they have a windows 7 driver for your cable.

There is only a USB cable inline. My understanding is there is some sort of USB to serial conversion going on internal in the machine.
