    Weeding small lettering

I have been using a pen and did not know to change the offset - makes perfect sense though.

    I don't have a 60 degree but will order some. I do have a new 45 degree.

    Weeding small lettering

I adjusted my blade offset and could tell no difference. I printed some larger print and see that I also have issues with it as well. Obviously, something has gotten out of adjustment. I've attached a file to show the printout but I'm not sure that it will show up good. In reading the manual, I saw the test to check the X and Y axis. I printed the 100mm by 150 mm square and found the x axis is only 97 mm. Can someone tell me what the readings for the x and y axis should be? My cutter is at 25801 for x and 25148 for y. I raised the x to 25950, printed and measured again and it is still at 97mm. I wanted to note also that we recently had to replace the carriage on this machine and we had problems caused by not getting the belt tight enough. We've tightened the belt and thought we had it running good until this job. I didn't know if maybe this could be related somehow.

I am using a 45 degree blade. I have found the manual and am reading through it - lots of great information and just what I needed. I am using SBE. My offset was at 0. I will play with that and run some tests tomorrow. I've not been able to work on it more this weekend. I'll post my results tomorrow. Thanks for all the advise!

    Weeding small lettering

I am working with 1/2" letters. I checked my blade length cutting vinyl by hand and it seems to be correct. I am not sure how to change the blade off set.
  6. I'm having problems with cutting small lettering and weeding it. The insides of the letters are not cutting completely. It looks as if the vinyl might be shifting slightly and causing registration problems and the blade to miss detail. I am using a laserpoint 24 with a new blade, Siser Easy Weed vinyl with pressure at 93. What adjustments should I make to try to tune this in?
  7. I have been having issues with my Us Cutter Laser point 24". It seems to be confused. When I try to do a "test" cut, the plotter jots off the the right instead of the left and it cuts the letters in a pile rather than in a row as it should. I have been working with the techs at Us Cutter but they have no idea what could be causing this. I have replaced the mother board and that did not change anything. Has anyone seen a similar problem before? I purchased the cutter in 12/2010 so it is out of warranty. It took me a long time to get going with it and was just starting to use it on a more regular basis so it has been used very little. Us Cutter has offered to waive the $90 service fee if I will pay shipping to and from (which will be quite costly I'm sure from IN to WA state!) I'm not sure I wouldn't be better off purchasing a different cutter!
  8. I ran my LP 24 for several hours without issue today and suddenly it started making an awful sound when it moved like it was dragging. It makes this sound even when just rotating left to right and feeding vinyl to set origin. I called UC Support and let them listen. When I tried to do a test cut, the cutter seemed confused and headed out across to the left rather than starting at origin. The tech seemed to think it may be the motherboard (he couldn't be sure). This would be an $80 part and something that I may be able to install with a tech talking me through it. The cutter is only 18 months old and has not been used much at all. (It took me months to get going on it and I'm just now really bringing jobs in!) Anybody had this issue before?
  9. Great, that's what I'll try then. Thanks!
  10. Can you recommend a good application tape for this job. I have smaller rolls of the Green Star, but I am going to invest in a 15" wide roll and I want to make sure that I get one that is easiest to work with for this size lettering and also for signs.
  11. Good advice - thank you for your time Rodger! I am one that was always concerned with setting too low of a price up front and not wanting to change later. I need to keep in mind that I am learning so, even if I am not making a lot of money on some jobs, I am gaining valuable experience!
  12. I've used heat applied vinyl before but not worked with sign vinyl yet at all. My customer needs 12" phone number for application on a vinyl bounce around. I'm using Oracel 751. My calculation for 75 running inches of vinyl is $7.75 plus $.88 for 15" wide application tape. I was thinking of marking up 200% which I rounded to $26. Does this sound reasonable? Will this cover my effort for printing, weeding a simple phone number and applying the tape to a job of this size? This is $17.25 profit, which seems like a nice profit for whatt seems to be a fairly simple project. My only concern is applying the tape to such a large area. I was thinking of breaking this job into 3 sections for ease of application. The customer will apply the graphics and I was thinking it may be easier for them as well in sections. Any comments? Is this asking too much? As you can see - I really have no idea as to what time frame to expect this to take!!

    Vinyl for Bounce Around

I have only used garment vinyl up until now and I want to be sure I'm clear on how to use vinyl that is not heat applied. I have a customer that wants a phone number in 12" letters applied to one of those blow up vinyl bounce arounds that people rent for kids parties and such. I have oracal 751 cast vinyl that I purchased but have not used yet. Will that work? Do I just cut the numbers, weed, apply transfer tape and give to my customer with instructions to apply? Any suggestions on transfer tape - I have Green Star Layflat Classic tape but it is only 6 in wide so I assume I will need to order some 12" or a little wider maybe to cover the larger letters unless it will work to cover each letter and overlap the tape? Thanks!

Ordering cutter and need vinyl advice

So I can use the Oracal or Green Star sign vinyl for the wall art too? It is removable?
  15. I am ready to purchase the US Cutter Laser Point Vinyl Cutter with contour cutting feature that is on sale. I understand that I will be able to cut twill for applique and also do rhinestones with this if I get the proper software in the future. I want to get a small amount of vinyl with my purchase to get me started. I am thinking that I should order the Green Star 12 color pack for signs, banners and decals. I'm going to check out the Siser EasyWeed for garments and I'm wondering about the Oracal Wall & Craft Pack. Is this what I should use with this cutter for wall art? I believe it is called Silhouette vinyl. I'm also getting the weeding and application starter kit as well and looking at the Roland set of replacement blades. Will these work with the US Cutter? I've tried to contact US Cutter several times this week both before the holiday and today but have not received a return call to discuss this with a rep. Any other suggestions about what I might need to consider would be appreciated as well.
