  1. I have the Laserpoint 24" and find it meets my needs nicely. It is very accurate and I have had little more setup other then taking it out of the box, plugging it in, and setting the blade height in the holder. I used to design in Adobe Illustrator but have now started using Inkscape. The reason I use Inkscape is because I go between a Mac and a PC and I only have Adobe on my PC. Inkscape is free for both platforms so I decided to learn it and I am happy I did. The Inkscape program is robust and easy to us. For cutting, I use SignCut because it was free with the cutter. But I also have demos of Flexi and SignBlazer. I personally find SignCut to be easier to use and quick to learn. I suggest you download the "Newbie Guide" and read through it. You will find a lot of answers to your questions along with answers to the ones you have not asked. http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php/topic,17489.0.html I think you will be happy with the Laserpoint, I am.
  2. Your going to need a business license and tax id because there is a good chance that other business may "right off" the expense of doing business with you. It is at that point that the feds will want their share from you. Anytime you are dealing with another business you want to protect yourself. Most businesses will only want to pay with a check, and it is those checks that will be used to track their purchases for tax purposes. The bottom line is you need to protect yourself. A business license is cheap, $35 a year where I live, and takes 5 minutes to get. The Federal Tax ID is free and can be done online. You will also need a business license for each county you are doing business in and may want to also check city ordnances for other requirements. It's not a big deal to obtain the necessary documents. Just make sure you are charging your customers the appropriate taxes and have an account setup to hold those funds until it's time to pay uncle Obama. Don't forget that a business license and tax id will also open the door for wholesale accounts with many suppliers!

    Laserpoint Cutter

Very happy with mine. Been cutting since the day I got it and I have been impressed with some of the smaller cuts it has made. The Laserpoint has done its job every time I send something to it. I have already revamped 30% of my investment in the two weeks I have had it. I would recommend this machine to anyone looking to get into this as a hobby or part time business.

    Cheapest cutting software with mac..

A dongle is basically a USB device, looks like a flash drive, which holds your license information for the software. If the dongle is not plugged in, your software will not properly function. This allows you to install the software on multiple computers and move the license around as needed. Because of this, you will need two USB ports on your Mac available. One for the dongle and one for the cutter.

    Vinyl Pricer

It's an excel spreadsheet and that's how it is used. There are a bunch of macros in it so make sure you have them enabled.

    USB to Laserpoint 24 issues

I had a similar issue with my laptop USB connection to my cutter. The problem with me was that I made the correct changes on the computer and in SignCut but the cutter would not update them unless it was reset. The way I had to reset it was to power it off, unplug the power cord from the cutter, unplug the USB cord from the cutter, wait 15 seconds, plug power cord back in, wait for "On Line" to appear in display, plug USB back in, then send a job to it. This is the method that tech support walked me through and it worked like a charm. Anytime you make a change in your COM ports on your computer, the cutter must update also. It can not update unless it is reset and that can not be done unless there is no power to it, including USB because power can travel through it. Try that and let me know if it helps.
  7. Not sure if anyone can help with this or not. I recently started using the software "Price Perfect" to price my work. I am attempting to remove discounts and vendors as well as add new ones. Adding discounts I have sorted out, but cant determine how to remove them. When it comes to vendors, I am completely lost. Does anyone know where the database is stored that the software pulls from? I am assuming it pulls from a database of some sort. I emailed the company that used to make it but I doubt they will support it now.

Thinking of purchasing a plotter setup

I do anything and everything. I haven't cut any text smaller then 1/2 inch but everything else I have thrown at it has been perfect. Some items were pretty detailed and required some time weeding but the cutter did a great job. I did a detailed monkey for my company logo and there were some really small areas that I did not clean up before exporting. They did not fair well on the cutter but we are talking shapes the size of a pinhead. I was very impressed with the cutter considering what I threw at it. P.S. - All this was done with the stock blades. I have not installed the Clean Cut blades yet.

    Dont buy a US Cutter

I love my USCutter Laserpoint, but I am a hobbiest/part time business user. If I was doing this full time and my families livelihood depended on it, I would have spent 10 times more.

Thinking of purchasing a plotter setup

I have the 24" Laserpoint and love it. Only thing I recommend is replacing the stock blades with some Clean Cut models, they are the best IMO. http://www.cleancutblade.com/ P.S. - They are on sale right now also!

    Another new guy

    Welcome!
  12. He hasn't been back since this post so I am assuming it is resolved.

    Vinyl on pop up tent

    Sweet!
  14. You need at least a 2.5" strip to cut on a Laserpoint. With the rollers pushed all the way together, there is just about 2.5" from one to the other so I would actually recommend a 3" strip for cutting at a minimum. Scraps can be your friend and I recommend saving every piece that can be cut again. I wont throw away any vinyl unless it is too small to cut or I can't find a use for it somewhere.

    Vinyl on pop up tent

I have a 14'x14' pop up shelter and I just created a banner to hang from it. The banner gives me much more room for advertising, provides additional shade, and leaves the shelter clean for other uses. My wife would strangle me if I printed my business name on it.
