what do you do for a living?

I'm primarily a student, wrapping up my final year at school I also screen print posters and pick up a few too many freelance graphic design gigs. Lots of all nighters, lots of meetings, but it is currently paying my bills and student loans.
  2. I have NO problem making more profit! I'll be sure to re-evaluate my prices before launch. Thanks guys.
  3. Great to know, I'll give it a try. I know it sounds like a stupid question to most, but I didn't want to ruin or damage anything.

big squeegee vs the ezroll (http://www.beacongraphics.com/supplies/tools/ezroll.html) any opinions?

    Bottom of Koozie cups????

Screen printing. That's an odd place for a print though. Glasses/koozies/and other odd shaped items that are screen printed use a specific process of printing called "Pad Printing".
  6. Also, what is your cost per sq inch? With low overhead since I'm working from my apartment I can afford to have a lower price, but I would rather have this estimate on the higher end.
  7. Exactly, I'm just using this to give the customer some sort of ball-park figure right away. They will always have to submit a quote. Honestly I'm not good enough with coding to add the features you mentioned, but this is just a starting foundation for anyone who wants to add on. I know that when I'm pricing something out I hate having to submit a quote and wait and wait and wait for a response without having any kind of clue what I'm expecting back. This is just what I made for a temp site until I actually pay a programmer to make a more complex form.
  8. I am not putting it up to seem like the cheapest guy, that's for sure. Also, I've added a note above it saying that it's not official pricing and a quote must be submitted for final price. Also, for 42x3" the cost of vinyl + app tape is around 55-60

    New 27"iMac, and Graphtec CE5000-60

$2000 for a computer and $500-1500 for the CS5 Suite and you want free cutting software? I am currently using SignCut, the one year license that came with my cutter has been great. I plan on buying a lifetime license once this runs out.
  10. Grabbed all of them! thank you!
  11. It's worth a shot hooking it up to a different computer. Then if it works just figure out what you did differently and see if you can't get it to run from your laptop with those settings.
  12. Although is sounds silly, make sure that after fooling around with the setting on the cutter that it says "On--line" before sending a job to cut.

    Hello All... New to Group

I'm happy with my lasercutter! I just got it a bit ago and it's great!
  15. Hey All, I'm Mark, my cutter is being delivered tomorrow and I feel confident after reading through so many topics on this forum. I can't wait to get to cutting and sharing what I'm up to. I screen print posters for shows, still in school for Graphic Design/Advertising. I plan on using my cutter (24" Laserpoint) for personal projects and cutting decals for friends as a way to buy more vinyl! Thanks for all of the support, MDF

    Cleaning Van

To each their own. I have been working on a typeface for over a year now, I'm really picky about stuff like this. I imagine someone smashing my font and watching all of the careful delicate work that was done making everything "perfect" thrown away. Everything that's part of a high quality font is there for readability and style. Squishing it makes it something entirely different. The rules are there to be broken I suppose. It's just not my style. It's like blowing up copperplate gothic and not reducing the spur serifs.

    Cleaning Van

Looks good, I do have one complaint as a bit of a type nerd. Why did you squish windows? I get that you were trying to justify the list but it kills me that the O is so smashed.

    Strokes not transferring properly

In illustrator, select the stroked item and click "object" on the top menu, then select "expand" This will turn your strokes in to actual paths. Hopefully that was the problem.

    Oracle vs. Avery

So it's clear that a lot of you here don't trust GreenStar in comparison to Oracle. Or at least aren't willing to risk it at $6 a roll. I can understand that and accept that I should go with a trusted brand as well. However, with USCutter being on the west coast shipping times are around 7 days which is just a bit too long for some projects. A local supplier sells rolls of Avery A6 (700 high performance calendered opaque). Their prices are higher than USCutter for oracle at $28 for a 24" roll and $22 for 15". I guess my question is if Avery is a better product, or if there are any benefits over Oracle. I hate the shipping wait time and it would be nice to be able to use a local supplier since I'd like to keep my turnaround time down. All opinions are welcomed, I'm just trying to figure out the best way to setup this small operation before I go out and offer a quality product.
  20. It took me 2 weeks before they shipped mine. I have a friend who was the one that told me about their service still waiting for hers.

    Oracle vs. Avery

That's great to hear. I'll use greenstar decals for friends so I can explain the situation and give them a lower price. Otherwise I'll run 651 I suppose. Thanks for all of the help!

    Oracle vs. Avery

Great thanks for the help. I called up Fellers and set up an account, even ordered a few rolls of 651. I think for now since what I'm doing is small decals I'm going to stick with it and see if there are any problems. There's a gentle balance between what a customer is willing to pay and what kind of product they want. I've offered longer life vinyl to a few now and only one has jumped up at and said that they'd like it for a special project. More often than not it seems as if most people are fine with a lower quality product for a lower price. Should be here tomorrow!

    Oracle vs. Avery

Any other help on this. I'm a bit confused since everyone says 651 is the standard for them, but yet it's a calendered vinyl which bayshore said not to use outdoor?

What is you blade of choice?

I ordered a blade from clean cut yesterday, really looking forward to giving it a try!
