    CNC update

Nice! Did you customize a cnc kit or create it from scratch? I've been trying to justify building one. Looks like it's doing a great job!
  2. Hi, First let me thank everyone for all the excellent discussions on this board. I can't tell you how helpful it's been reading up on everything these last few months. Now for my problem. . . I got my LaserPoint II a few weeks ago and I've been familiarizing myself with how it operates and how to handle the software (Inkscape and VinylMasterCut). I cut about a dozen different images and just weeded them right on the cutter. I learn better by doing and so they are strictly for practice. I noticed on one of the first ones there was a square dent. Didn't think much of it, as the first few inches of a lot of these rolls were pretty beat up. It was nearing 100 degrees when USCutter shipped them and when they arrived here the next day, so the vinyl was pretty soft to be bouncing around the back of a UPS truck. ( GreenStar Intermediate Calendered vinyl that came with the cutter ) You can see the dent just to the right of the light reflection. So today I cut off about 18" of vinyl with a bunch of stickers on it and when the light hits just right a notice a lot more of those dents. There are three rows of them, right in line with the pinch rollers. And you can see a cross-hatch pattern running up the page between each dent. I'm new to this, but I'm going to take a wild guess that the pinch rollers are way too tight. They each have two knurled knobs that would adjust the tension. What is the proper procedure for adjusting it? Also, do you remove your vinyl at the end of the day or just leave it in the cutter? I noticed the dents are any place where it sat for a few hours.

    Perf cutting after premasking

I'm completely new at this so I may be way off base but what if you did the following? - Cut your vinyl with registration marks. - After the app tape, place the decal on a carrier sheet like in the link the Signyouup posted. Or maybe even try contact paper. - Create a new layer or color on your original artwork. - On this new layer, manually create a contour cut. On most graphics software they have some sort of function to take the selected lines and "expand" or "grow" or "enlarge",which is essentially what a contour cut is doing. It won't be perfect, you'll have to do a little cleaning up. - Change the faux contour cut line type to a dash instead of a solid. You'll probably have to play with what style dash works best. - Line up your decal and it's carrier sheet using the registration marks just like you would for a real contour cut. - Set up a blade depth that will cut through the app tape and decal but not the carrier sheet. - Cut the color/layer that had the faux contour cut. It sounds like a lot of work the first time around, but most of the heavy lifting is done when you go to make that decal again.

    Pinch Roller Setup

I'm sure glad I asked before dinking with it. Thanks!

Why Is There This Product Gap? (Cutters)

I don't know about the LaserPoint II 31.5" but I just got in a 25". It has 5 grit rollers and 3 pinch rollers. Because of the placement of the grit rollers you can set the pinch rollers to 10 different widths. Centerline to Centerline: 1 1/2", 5, 6 1/2, 8, 9, 14, 15 1/2, 17, 20 1/2, 22

    Clipart and font

If you're on their mailing list they send out a link to some free images at most of the holidays. It will give you an idea of the quality.

    Vector

Thanks for all the great information. I'm new to all this and once in awhile the simplest of things trips me up. . .how can you tell that the top of the "T" is doubled up and that part of it is made of 3 lines? I know I've seen this done before and even tried it out, but all my poking around in Inkscape doesn't seem to reveal the problems.
  8. You're incredible! Thanks for the Dually!!!
  9. A decal would be fantastic, but I can work with an outline: 2011 Dodge Ram 3500. I'd be grateful for either!
  10. I'd love a dually rear end too! My wife drives a Kia Soul and a Tam 3500. It would be great to do a "my other car is a dually" sticker for her.
