You might be surprised that the people who come here and post up a design with a watermark on it from Shutterstock and want someone to vector it for them. The watermark is protecting the image. We have seen a lot of copyrighted images come thru here, that people want someone to vector for them.

Well, you CAN cut clear through if you get a circuit cutting board or similar. And the Graphtec and other higher end cutters offer what is often called a Kiss Cut that will cut through the backing in spots and leave connecting pieces in between sort of a bouncing motion but that is mainly used for printed "sticker" type work and WILL cause cutting strip wear very quickly. The people who do that sort of thing generally ONLY do that sort of thing so fine detailed cutting is less critical and they probably get by with a chewed up cutting strip longer than the rest of us would put up with. Or they are large enough operators that they have a completely different fine cutting machine they don't abuse that way.

In VM you would select the word "Police" and the black bar. Then "weld". This will make it all one big piece. "Weld" is found in the side menu, near the bottom. The icon is two white, overlapping boxes. That will open the shaping and welding tools.

If your going to post a file. post it as an .eps. A lot of us don't use Vinyl Master. An .eps can be imported into most software.

I think that was off the old Rocky Horror picture show.

I believe your actual question is simply about the stock designs offered by FM to buy and use. I think those are aimed at the sidewalk vendors that set up in various beach fronts or along boardwalks and flea markets etc... I think it prudent to have a chat with them about the uses allowed but if they are offering them out for retail production they SHOULD be safe. FM is pretty big and would be a target if they were doing something silly. The watermarks might be to help with online screen capture and maybe they only had them on some or maybe those particular are under a different license agreement, only they know for sure.

That of course would be the rotary vinyl cutter with a true USB allowing the cutter to interpret the original intended sound with a 1 second delay allowing the cutter to re-cut the groove back to original. The blade of course would have to be set by the copyright “skeeter method” I joke, but the skeeter method is real, so is the true USB and so is most of the information you are going to get on this forum. As far as the rotary vinyl cutter goes, my idea, my copyright. I think I need another beer.

We try to help as best we can. Unless you ask how to get the scratches out of your vinyl records. I don't think (I could be wrong) any of us have rotary vinyl cutters.

Considering it is snowing here, that pic looks great. BUT! I don't believe you and I think that pic could have a copyright on it.

I want to see this garden you speak of. Is this the weed killer convention?
  13. 1 point
Google is not all-seeing and all-knowing. Look at it this way -- I take a picture of my garden. I send it via email to my cousin. She then places it on Facebook. Someone grabs it and prints invitations to a large Lawn&Garden Convention event with my image accompanying all their promotional materials. THAT is not 'fair use' and I would sue. And likely win.

It's not against any rules, because of a little thing called "fair use" provision of copyright laws. Many educational and noncommercial uses are considered fair to reproduce (especially in this case, where you are just putting it here as an avatar). In my opinion.

TrackHawk, for example, let's take your own Forum image here (the car front). Where is that from? Did you create it? Do you own the rights to it?

possible those watered marked are designs that they made. Maybe others are designs that they purchased and can resell. Or from the public domain library.

Darcshadow for the win! It was the opacity that was set to zero. What a PITA... I don't know how it got set that way, it was at 100% one day and 0% the next. Thanks for the help. dcbevins, thanks for the tips on the stroke color/width.

You might have opacity set to zero, but I am thinking you have just set the stroke color to none or "no fill." Right click on a color on the palate bar and pick stroke or Shift+Click a color to set the stroke color. You might have also set stroke width to zero. Change it to something non zero if this is the case, (I like using 1pt most of the time.)

Hello Kate from Florida. I would have to agree with most here that have mentioned the Graphtec plotter. They are very good machines. That said you mentioned that you used a Cricut Maker. I believe they can be used to cut all the way through card stock and some plastic sheets used in scrap booking. Any of the vinyl plotters that are mentioned are strictly for cutting through vinyl and not the backing paper. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome from the Americas - you do realize this thread hasn't been used for over 4 years right?

You're opacity is set to 0, try changing to 100.

So my SC2 was delivered today. Such a difference in the VE cutter and the SC2 cutter. I think the oddest thing I have seen so far is I swear that this cutter was an off white, almost eggshell color when I took it out of the box and now its a light baby blue. Other than that the VinylMaster Cuts software is easy to use, the machine is easy to operate and it cuts great. I am extremely pleased with the cutter and the decision to dump the VE. I have to pay the shipping to send the VE cutter back to SW, which is an expense I'll happily pay to get rid of it. As a test I just cut out some words and it cut wonderful, in straight lines, no tracking issues. For a more detailed test I cut out some back the blue flags for an FWC officer down the street to hand out. Each flag was cut very well after a couple tries to get the speed and pressure right. I am 100% positive that this cutter is going to make me some money. The cutter is grounded to the stand and the stand itself sits on concrete.
