Sorry I have to agree with Nukleon on this one (did I just say that). My father has had to put 40k on his house due to medical expenses (he works for a oil company). My heath care with the state has changed in the past 25 years so much I have to ask how my kids will ever afford to get heath care. 26 years ago my scripts cost 2.00 each now I have several that are 40 each. health care premiums have increased greatly and this week when they announce they are closing my prison again I find out if I can transfer my health care cost will double, along with a 5 percent pay cut - this is doubled as my wife works there also as a dental assistant. with the cost of health care now and with the trend toward more expensive or less employer based health care systems how will your kids afford to go to the doctor much less afford it if hospitalization is required. I look at the trend in the last 25 years and then look at what it will be in 25 more years. we cannot afford to keep going the way we have been going. it doesn't matter if you are Democrat or Republican - if you are not a millionaire you will not be able to afford health care 25 years from now

They are non commercial. All 3 are. I drive these out of state as well. They have been all over the country. 99.9 % like rodger said, they might ticket you but the first time you'll get out of it anyhow. Everyone I know that pulls these box trailers are non commercial. For a sign business man, your not pulling or hauling any weight in that heheeheh You have to think about it... no weight, no DOT # I think Racin is hauling cars in his, that might be a different story...... but like I said I'd think you'll be more than fine pulling that without a DOT # Hope this helps ya

Federal law is what takes precedent on interstate roads . Reciprocity means the state has to honor the home states laws . About 1/2 the States have permanent trailer tags .I have permanent trailer tags in Tn , Maine & WV . Cops always get on a rage about certain things 7 do win about some things , but get wore out by Judges also & stop ticketing for nonsense issues . RacerBoy , you have your CDL , do you actively drive a CDL vehicle & or own 1 ? Wondering if you are talking about direct experience or the gossip at the truck stops My buddy has about 30 trailers registered in Maine that goes thru NY weekly some with Superload permits , many with oversize permits . He has tagged EVERY trailer he owns based in Maryland dor the past 40 years in Maine with no tickets at all like you speak of . I know you are meaning well .

Hey guy's, NY is VERY strict on EVERYTHING...... Alaska? I wouldnt even think so eheheheh I live in N.C. and I have a 12x16 trailer actually 3 of them.... I have company logos and business stuff plastered all over the place. I've sold and bought new ones last year and stickered these as well. I've bene through every traffic stop in the world, and never ask to see anything special at all. think it's all in where you live man, it varies from state to state though. I'm like Racin, check with the dmv there and see what the specs are. I've never had to have my CDL's for these, even though I do have these though. The boys drive these things all over N.C. and get stopped at traffic stops on a regular basis. Anyway, like I said, check with your DMV office for the details.

I would check Alaska's laws . What are you pulling the trailer with ? The way I look at it , is having a DOT # may technically be required , especially if you give the rookie cop the answers they are looking for ,but you open up a bigger bag of worms by putting 1 on . Reciprocity means every state has to obey the home states laws . I bet 99.99 % of the work vans that are decalled in each & every state don't have decals or go thru the weigh scales . I would " use the trailer for advertisement & storage " move it to a different location etc . Putting DOT decals on the puling vehicle opens up a bag of worms IMO . That is confessing it is commercial & if a bad accident happened your insurance company would most likely use that to try to not honor the policy at all . I use a 1/2 ton pick up to escort the mobile homes & it follows me thru the weigh scales . i have never been asked or bothered about a DOT # , even though it is deep into needing them ( edit - added : they have oversize load signs, revolving lights & decals but under 10,000 registry ). What you are doing is barely scratching the surface of needing a DOT # IMO . all said & done . getting a ticket for not having a DOT # on what you are driving ( assuming a car or pick-up ) is easy to beat in court & much less of a liability than having a DOT # from my experience .

I agree. I make my living doing computer work, so working with my hands is a nice change, and therapeutic for sure. Welcome to the world of vinyl cutting!

Any healthcare better is better than NO healthcare, where having any kind of illness means a choice between treatment or bankruptcy. Canada has gotten better with the wait queues, but let's not forget, Americans have to wait too! Not only do we wait for specialist care, surgeries, etc., we have to deal with the hordes of people in emergency rooms who use this as their primary care (for a variety of reasons).

Our Canadian PO is very efficient and provides wonderful service albeit the rates suck for some services and some sizes of packages....But I guess we get what we pay for.... Also, one our Canadian Airport Authorities now has contracts to run several US Airports...Kind of interesting since there is so much US ownership in Canada.... As far Canadian health care, you have just been watching to much TV if you believe it is that bad....We have longer life outcomes and higher live birth rates in Canada...Yes we have some waits for some services but it is far better than denials, lifetime limits or co-pays so high you go broke....Michael Moore is a "dufus" (but I like him) and does not have his story as wrong as those medical lobbyists would ike you to believe.....For another spin, please read Wendell Potter's book Deadly Spin.....

You mean government-run Medicare, which is more efficient than private healthcare, has far less overhead and was the brainchild of a Canadian socialist? Or, maybe you're referring to the government-run healthcare which covers all government employees (including politicians against healthcare), active military and veterans as well as prisoners and the indigent? That government-run healthcare? Seems there's a lot of government-run healthcare, except for the 50 million Americans who can't get or don't have insurance. Check out the other countries which have healthcare for everyone, and do it much cheaper than the 16% of its GDP that America spends. Here's the list: Every other first-world nation on the planet. Cheers,

I don't want to be argumentative but if the vehicle does not need a DOT # , it should not have 1 as putting that # on will make it a commercial vehicle & if not insured that way.. that leads into other problems . The OP never said how big the trailer is , what the vehicle is that will be pulling it or if they have commercial tags on it ( I have never seen commercial car tags other than cabs ? ) . If the vehicle & trailer is not registered or actually weighs more than 10,000 pounds , it does not need a DOT # ( unless it meets other requirements ). Having decals on the vehicle does not make it commercial from what I have read . Of course big commercial vehicles need a DOT # but cars that only have advertisement on them or pick-ups that don't meet any of the requirements are not subject to DOT status . Most states require a state DOT # even if staying inside that state based on some things . Those states all have some variations in their rules , but every state I have checked out has a 10,000 lb limit & the 1rst factor that is listed for needing a federal DOT # is over 10,00 lbs & hauling across a state line. Anything tagged for more than that is commercial unless a camper , farm truck etc . I have had a commercial driver's license for 39 years & have my own federal DOT # . I know cops can ticket you about anything , but the judge has the final ruling in the interpretation of the actual law . I tried to find the federal law , but it wasn't coming up easy .I'll have to look at the books I have when I get motivated enough . I know New York is about the toughest in many areas of trucking including oversize loads . I would think the cops would get pissed at a car or 1/2 ton pick-up pulling a single axle trailer pulling into a weigh station because it has a DOT # .

the DOT thing is a weight determination . federal law so applies in every state . i think over 10,000 lbs & over 3 axles is the determination but not really enforced much unles doing commercil type activity. Like hauling a bobcat with a 3/4 ton truck with a 2 axle trailer complete unit always weighs more than 10K , so DOT requirements ( including a physical ) is required . exceptions are campers , livestock , motor homes etc . If you put ypour DOT # on anything . it then becomes that & ANY ticket will show up on your DOT record . So if a single axle trailer , dot # not required unless pulled by a tandem truck . I don't think the dot # has to be on the trailer anyway , just what is pulling it . Like Racingboy says , best to make sure . Asking a cop will give you as many different answers as the # of cops you ask as a generality ( just like asking a lawyer about something ).

I like the Sharpie idea too! Never thought of it. I have seen that Rollee thing too and I do know someone that loves it.I still haven't tried a trailer yet so I'm just listening! Be sure to post your trailer when you are finished! Love to see it!

I do a lot of trailers and box trucks with rivets or screws. Sometimes I just remove screws and place them back after install is done. Using calendared vinyl over the rivets is doable (not recommended) with enough heat and pocking one hole on the base of the each and every rivet in order to let the air out. I've tried a lots of different methods to form vinyl (cast or calendared) around the rivets, and the best way to do it is sharpie cap and heat gun. Yes sharpie cap, it's same size as a rivet fits perfectly over it. So. pock the hole on the bottom of the rivet heat the area with heat gun , place sharpie cap over the rivet twist it a little bit and hold for few seconds. Works perfect specialy with calendared vinyl. BTW make sure area around rivets is clean. Hope all this make sense. Good luck

I hope you can. I'm still trying to figure it out what is your job.

to answer your actual question: pay attention to how he deals with the rivets. You can buy a rivet brush if you have a lot of rivets... http://www.uscutter.com/GAP-Rivet-Brush-15-Diameter_p_617.html hope this helps. oh...the same procedures work with cast or calendared vinyl.

probably your com ports are not matching in your computer device manager and the Signblazer set up http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/49/1/basic-cutter-setup

Shouldn't need any drivers with a serial connection. Just select the COM port in your software and you should be good to go.

I just do not think it is wise to use calendared vinyl over rivets......
