very basic, very quick question

looking for a quick yes or no, i just unpacked my mh871and im dying to make a first cut, but before hand...

in front of the machine, right ion front of the metal roller, there is what looks like a strip of masking tape going across the machine.

im thinking this is a protective thing??

all i want to know is, do i need to take this off to start cutting?
